Johannesburg - Three men accused of murdering a suspected child killer in Kwanokuthula, outside Plettenberg Bay, were granted bail by the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Mlamli Mtimkulu Pshwaei, 54, Mbonisi Puli, 33, and Michael Besana, 31, were released on R1 000 bail each, said Captain Malcolm Pojie.

The case was postponed until March 7 for further investigation.

The three are accused of murdering 37-year-old Derrick Shwati.

Last week, about 2 000 people interrogated Shwati about a missing seven-year-old girl, Siphokazi Nini.

He led them to a deserted area and allegedly pointed out Nini's body. The child had been reported missing.

The mob then attacked Shwati, pelting him with stones and other objects until he died.

Last Wednesday, about 300 people protested outside the Plettenberg Bay police station and demanded the release of the arrested men.

Police used stun grenades to disperse the protesters after they burned tyres on the street.
