Cape Town - The family of 4-year-old Bukho Mlityalwa has confirmed that the body found floating in a Kraaifontein dam on Sunday was that of the missing child.

Police spokesperson Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said in a statement on Tuesday they strongly believed the body found was that of the missing Wallacedene toddler. The clothing matched the description of what he was wearing at the time of his disappearance, he said.

A huge search was launched last week after Bukho disappeared from where he was playing with friends in Wallacedene.

"However, the police felt it was prudent not to speculate on the matter, but conducted further investigation in order to determine the precise identity of the child."

Kinana has confirmed that the family of the boy positively identified the body.

According to the statement, an autopsy conducted on Monday showed no injuries were found on the child.

The police expressed gratitude to the members of the community and everybody involved in the search.
