Durban - Police officers searching for a missing teenager made a grim discovery on Friday when her decomposed body was found stuffed into the housing of a long-drop toilet.

The 14-year-old girl had been reported missing last week.

Police search and rescue unit dog handlers, supported by a police helicopter, searched KwaNcolosi near Inanda Dam.

They responded to community reports about a suspicious smell near the toilet and, on closer inspection, found the body.

“We can confirm Hillcrest Police Station is investigating a case of murder. It is alleged a 14-year-old female was reported missing at Hillcrest Police Station on October 6 and her body found today in the toilet,” said police spokesperson Thulani Zwane.
