Johannesburg - Four murder cases were being investigated in the North West, police said on Monday.

A man, 22, allegedly stabbed his girlfriend, 26, to death during an argument outside her house in Ipelegeng on Sunday, said spokesperson Pelonomi Makau in a statement.

"After the incident the suspect ran away and was later arrested."

He would appear in the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

A woman, 27, in Jouberton allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death with a knife on Sunday, she said.

It was alleged the couple had an argument the previous night.

The woman would appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.

Nose missing

In another Jouberton murder, a suspect and two others stoned a man to death in Extension 27.

"It is further alleged that the man was found with his right ear, right upper lip and his nose missing in an open field," she said.

The suspect would appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, but the two other people implicated were still at large.

In Vryburg on Sunday, Gawie Willeme allegedly stabbed a man in his neck and he died in hospital, Makau said.

Willeme, 32, appeared in the Vryburg Magistrate's Court on charges of murder on Monday.

He was remanded in custody and was expected to appear again for his bail application on Friday.

The North West police were concerned about the escalating murders in the province, Makau said.
