Cape Town - The police are still investigating the cause of a fire in which seven people were killed in Oudtshoorn, in the Western Cape, at the weekend.

Captain Malcom Pojie said experts were analysing information they had collected at the GG camp, in Bongulethu informal settlement, outside the town.

"Our experts are investigating the cause of the fire. It will still take some time for them to analyse the information they have," he said.

Patrolling police spotted the fire on Sunday.

On arrival they found the compound, which was occupied by three families, totally destroyed.

Seven bodies - three children and four adults - were recovered in the rubble.

Pojie said family members who escaped had been unable to identify the charred bodies.

"No foul play is suspected currently," he said.
