Police selective, Jub Jub trial hears

Johannesburg - A police officer failed to take statements from two witnesses at the scene of Jub Jub's car crash because they gave him information he did not want, the Protea Magistrate's Court heard on Friday.

"When they give you information defusing the case against accused one [Molemo Jub Jub Maarohanye] you did not take their statement," his lawyer Ike Motloung told Protea Glen police station commander Major Moses Segapo during cross-examination.

Segapo responded: "The purpose of investigation is to look for evidence linking the suspect to the crime."

The two witnesses were apparently passengers in the Mini Coopers Maarohanye and his co-accused Temba Tshabalala crashed, allegedly while drag-racing under the influence of drugs and alcohol, killing four school boys in Protea North, Soweto, on March 8 2010.

He did not take statements from the two because they had been told what to say. They could also not answer his question about the speed the two cars were travelling before the crash.

"One of them said 'that is why I wanted Ike to come with us'," Segapo said, referring to the lawyer.

Maarohanye and Tshabalala are facing charges of murder, attempted murder and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The trial was postponed to August 22, and their bail extended.

Maarohanye was dressed in a black, striped jacket and his hair was braided. He took notes of the proceedings in the dock.

We give a rat's rear as to what Maarohanye was wearing, and his hair is always braided, in every pic I've ever seen anyway. They should be in JAIL, not still living the good life. The parents have to live without their children, two other sets have to watch their children who had potential reduced to less than they were. Outrageous. Get this over with. Ike must go to Hollywood, or jail

They are just making stuff up. Let's hope these bastards land up in jail for a good long stretch with Babba (stretch - ha ha?).

How long is this going to go on! It is costing me as a tax payer money to read about this moron of a lawyer going on and on! Jub Jub got into his car, drugged or not, sped down the road and killed innocent kids! Unfortunately we don't have the death penalty any more, so lock the piece of dog-turd up and throw the key away! Let the biggest, meanest dude make him his bitch! He is not worth being called a human!

Hey, Ike, let's hear you argue that the four kids aren't dead. Keep your shyster lawyer tactics for another case.
