Police van crashes into prison vehicle

Cape Town - Four prisoners had to be cut from a police truck after it collided with an escort van on Thursday morning, Western Cape police said.

Warrant Officer November Filander said the truck was driving to Goodwood prison on the N1 highway around 08:30 when the police van acting as an escort sideswiped it.

The truck overturned near the Monte Visa off-ramp, trapping a female and three male prisoners.

Emergency medical services spokeswoman Keri Davids said they were slightly injured and taken to hospital. Two police officers in the van sustained back and head injuries.

A case of reckless or negligent driving was opened.

As a matter of fact, I saw the blue light poephole this morning riding on the Monte Vista bridge... the police van riding into oncoming traffic for that matter. Shame, probably the only adrenaline rush the get in the mornings. It's prisoners being escorted, not VIP's!!!

This does not surprise me at all, All you have to see is how these bloody idiots drive on Baden Powell Drive every morning and afternoon. Its not going to be long before someone is killed.

  • Christopher - 2012-05-24 15:39

This doesn't surprise me one bit. The way they drive on the N1, inbound, some mornings to make it in time for court is shocking.
