Post foreign mail early - Post Office

Johannesburg - With less than nine weeks to Christmas, the SA Post Office urged customers on Friday to post Christmas mail to foreign countries early.

"Whether you are one of the 120 million people worldwide who do their shopping online for gifts, or you are sending one of the 900 million Christmas cards to brighten up someone's festive season, we are ready to deliver your Christmas wishes," Janras Kotsi said.

Kotsi said up to 10 million mail items were posted on average during peak season in South Africa.

Air-mail items should be posted no later than 14 December.

No point in posting mail early because whatever is being posted is stolen before it can even leave the country.

Exactly my thought when I read the headline! I am still waiting for three parcels to arrive from overseas (parcels I know of, not 'surprises'), and a few weeks ago, an envelope with content did not make it the the US, the 'opportunities' for staff to help themselves appear very good at the Post Office! Like at the airports, I suppose...

And if you post it around the 14th be sure to say \Merry Christmas 2013\ because you have NO chance of it arriving on time. However, I tend to agree with Irene on this one

..and the insurance charges are 3x the value of the gift

Please also remember not to attempt to post anything of value as it will definitely be stolen.

I'm surprised this snail company is still breathing. People use emails, social networks & private couriers now. You can go ahead and fold up now boys, we dont need you anymore.
