Potchefstroom flat fire claims life

Potchefstroom - One person was killed in an apartment fire in Potchefstroom early on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.

"Various residents of the apartment building managed to vacate the burning building, but after further investigation paramedics found that one of the residents had sustained various fatal burns," ER24 spokesperson Andre Visser said.

The person was later declared dead on the scene.

The cause of the fire and the gender of the deceased were not immediately known.

    The owner/property consultants of that flats should be in jail because they should have had a Fire Detection system installed. That should be a law in SA - wherever there are multi tenants in a building, that building should comply to the Fire laws of SA. Had a system been installed and all the alarms were directed to the nearest Fire Department, lives would have been saved. These people who rent these building out actually put the people's lives at risk just for money

      Its not expensive - we provide that service and its people like that who owns flats and buildings make people's lives at risk due to their financial gain
