Prayer day for Diepsloot

2013-11-07 20:50

Johannesburg - The City of Johannesburg announced plans on Thursday for a prayer day in Diepsloot following a spate of violent crimes in the township.

"As part of easing tensions and [to] heal the community... people from all religious background will engage in prayer and meditation," spokesperson Nkosinathi Nkabinde said in a statement.

The prayer session would form part of the international 16 Days of Activism Campaign, from 15 November to 10 December.

Three children have been killed in the township since September.

The bodies of 2-year-old Yonelisa Mali and her cousin Zandile Mali, 3, were recently found in a public toilet cubicle.

Five people were arrested, but four of them were released due to lack of evidence.

The prayer day would include a march led by Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau.

Church leaders would also be present.

"The community will be addressed on various issues about crime, substance abuse, domestic violence and gender-based violence," said Nkabinde.

The prayer day would take place on Monday at the Diepsloot Methodist Church, in extension 10.

And prayers are going to help how?

The ANC are actually admitting that they don't know what to do. Praying is like a rocking chair—it'll give you something to do, but it won't get you anywhere. —GYPSY ROSE LEE

Amen, TheOldCynical; I agree 110% percent with you. I would like to extend this beyond the borders of Gauteng and Western-Cape. May our Heavenly Father help them realize what kind of government they are and that they will use the power of their vote to oust this government as well as the ruling cANCer party.

Cr@p in one hand and pray in the other and see which one fills up first...

I'd rather have more honest cops with better resources patrolling the area, but I suppose prayer is about as much as the Government is prepared to pay.

  • Erna Westdyk - 2013-11-07 21:17

A prayer and a march is all that government can offer? Fat lot of good that's going to do. How about some proactive action, like a police station or two with some capable cops?

I agree with everyone so far. It's time for the City of Joburg to get off it's knees and get to work!

not only Diepsloot that needs prayers but South Africa as a hub since the shed of blood that was done during the time of apartheid and even.

Atheitis. There are no atheists in foxholes.

It is everybodiee democratic right to attend. It is very affective if you get the different spiritual leqders envolve, without making it a propaganda platform for party politics. I believe in active prayer. You must be willing to be the answer of your own prayer. It is not a useless exercise. At less is also a uppertunity the raise awareness against crime and mobilise people against it. I doubt if a atheist meeting with the message of no god, no hope, scientifice analise and surviving of the strongest, so everybody for yourself meeting will get 100 people to attend. Lol. That will be useless. We are living in a democratic country. Fell free not to attend. Lol.

      Freddie Mybokkie Swart - 2013-11-08 07:07

Atheistis. Fell free not to attend the meeting if it is agaist your reason. lol. Reason needs proof to be a fact. If it cannot be proven, reason will have no answer but reason itself. That is its great limitation. Prayer goes futher that reason. It does not have the limits that reason have. Faith is not what you see. The prove of faith is not always the immediate results. It is the ability to see in the spiritual dimension as if it already happenened. There are many people that can witness to you about prayers that has been answered. Again you gonna give the argument of reason because it does not fit in your thinking. It is in a other dimention. Again I believe in active prayer. We must be willing to be the answer of our prayer. We must get involve and make a change to bring hope in our community. I don't endorse the injustic of the politicians but this is true ... "As part of easing tensions and [to] heal the community... people from all religious background will engage in prayer and meditation," spokesperson Nkosinathi Nkabinde said in a statement... If you want to organize your own meeting. Strongz. Go ahead. We must have respect of others believe even if we disagree.

Prayer in the Bible is public and private. Miriam gave thanks by means of song (a form of prayer) after God delivered His people from Pharo. Churches and temples of public places of worship. Lasly. I will turn that question around. Is it enough prove acording to reason that because there is injustic, there is no God? My understanding of the Bible is about God that loves the world and his own creation rejecting Him. Sin is therefore the reason we are living in a injust world. Even if people are friends of God, nowhere the Bible tries to hide there sin, ect, Moses, the murderer, David, the murderer. Your argument that because some religious leaders are hipocrites, God does not exites, is exatly the Bible is very open about and speaks against it. Go and read the prophets where judgment is against corrupt religious leaders. I am a science teacher and religious leader. I know both sides of the coin. Einstein theory of relatism says that energy cannot be created or destroyed. It only can be transfered. Reason does not have enough evidence for me to begin to explain how the universe can be so put together. Therefore I stick with faith.

      Freddie Mybokkie Swart - 2013-11-08 08:38

Again. The ground rules of reason (give my physical prove) is different that faith. Faith moves where cannot move. You can also not 100% PROVE THAT THERE IS NO GOD. There are far to many gaps in scientific reason. For example can a scientist 100% exsplain to me how the human brain works? Why are we so perfectly alligned in the milkyway, distand from the sun. The composition of the atmosphere? The perfect balance of the ecosisteme? How is it possible that positive mutation by chance and natural selection can take place from a single cell organism to a exremely complex being. It is like a explosion taking place and the debri falls together to form a house. Even the chances are slimmer for that to happenens. We have a lovely creation and it us a human beings fault that things are like this.

      Freddie Mybokkie Swart - 2013-11-08 13:09

I am still here. I see that you are resorting to namecalling and insults because you cannot answer the questions. It is very clear you have personal issues against christians. You are angry with God and therefore denying its excistence. Of course you are going to deny this :-). That is your problem. I cannot make you believe. We have been created with freedom of choice. Faith value cannot be measure be reason. That is why you will not get a answer because you limit your thinking to reason alone. Faith is personal and the experience the individual.

if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV)

This is wonderful, getting the community to unite in prayer. God Bless you all, and those who are organizing this event.

  • Jacqui Daane Van Rensburg - 2013-11-08 09:49

Nkabinde, you don't have a clue what meditation mean. Give the people what you promised and you won't need to pray.

  • Happy TrueWorship Nkhumeleni - 2013-11-10 15:50

Honestly whatever that is happening here @ diepsloot is the work of the devil... There is a spirit that is behind all this.. Let us decree and declare safety, peace and power to defeat kingdom of darkness in the name of Jesus.
