Johannesburg - Two boys aged 10 and 11 went missing on Tuesday after two unknown men picked them up in a car in Lansdowne and drove off with them, Cape Town police said.

Clinton Swart, 10, and Samuel Muller, 11, were playing in front of the Lansdowne Fisheries at the corner of Lansdowne and Blomvlei roads around 15:30, police spokesperson Tembinkosi Kinana said.

Kinana said the two men stopped the car, called the children and ordered them to jump into car.

"According to the report, the suspects thereafter drove off on Lansdowne Road towards Athlone. It is alleged that the suspects were covering their faces to conceal their identities."

A kidnapping case was opened and no arrests had yet been made, Kinana said.
