Johannesburg - Two men have been arrested for the rape and robbery of a pregnant Pretoria businesswoman and her colleague at a lodge in Hazyview, Mpumalanga police said on Monday.

A 25-year-old man and a second man were found at Marite village hours after four guests were robbed at the Kruger Park Lodge, also in Hazyview, on Thursday last week, said police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala.

He said one of the men told the police they had robbed and raped the two Pretoria women at Tatenda Guest House on 7 October.

"He further confessed to the police that during 2008, he was part of a daring gang who went to a house belonging to a single woman in Hazyview."

The Hazyview area has been struck by a wave of violent crime the past month.

"Though the robberies in Hazyview remain a cause of concern, it must be borne in mind that police management is doing all at its disposal to counter and stabilise criminal activities in the province," said provincial police commissioner Thulani Ntobela.
