Johannesburg – The Presidency on Saturday dismissed rumours that President Jacob Zuma would reshuffle the Cabinet following the death of Minister Collins Chabane.

“Should the president decide to effect any changes to the national executive, he will make a public announcement,” spokesperson Harold Maloka said in a statement.

“The Presidency will not respond to the speculation and rumours in this regard.”

Public Service and Administration Minister Collins Chabane was killed in a car accident near Polokwane, Limpopo, on March 15.

Congress of the People spokesperson Dennis Bloem said in a statement that ANC MP Mathole Motshekga, who is chairperson of Parliament's justice portfolio committee, was getting ready to fill Chabane’s position.

"With the much awaited Cabinet reshuffle on the cards, to fill the vacancy left by the passing away of minister of public service and administration, Collins Chabane, who died in a motor car accident few weeks ago, there are those who are desperate to catch the attention of the president to fill the vacancy.

"It is therefore, hardly surprising, that a non-performer such as Mathole Motshekga, will ramp up his disgraceful behaviour to impress No 1 [Zuma] and the bosses at Luthuli house," Bloem said.
