Pretoria – A Pretoria attorney who “left no stone unturned” for his clients, died at the weekend after his car went over a bridge, Netwerk24 reported on Monday.

Anton Smith, 38, had won several civil claims against the police on behalf of disgruntled clients. He was busy with his second master’s degree.

Friends on Facebook described him as always positive and full of life.

Smith was on his way to see his partner, Louise Etchell, also a lawyer, when he crashed.

Braam Kruger from Emer-G-Med emergency services said the accident happened at about 20:30 on Friday.

It seems as if Smith was driving north on the N1 and had taken the Garsfontein exit which passes over the highway. Smith’s BMW hit another car on the intersection.

Smith’s car then hit a traffic light, overturned and crashed over the bridge. It landed on its roof in the parking lot of a business park next to the N1, said Kruger.

Smith died instantly. His body was removed from the wreckage with the Jaws-of-Life.

Jack Gerber, a friend, said Smith was someone with “great ambition”.

“He was a very successful lawyer.”

By Sunday, Smith’s Facebook page was filled with messages from shocked friends and colleagues with many saying his death felt unreal.

“I don’t cry because he left... I cry because he’s not coming back,” wrote Gerber.
