Johannesburg - A Pretoria man critically wounded a robber who was in his home after opening fire on the suspect and two others, it was reported on Friday.

"It's not easy to shoot. It's not easy to do such a thing. It's not something that anyone asks for," Henry Lubbe told Beeld.

According to the newspaper, the robbers attacked him when he went downstairs to investigate noises at the security gate of his home in Sable Hills Estate, north-east Pretoria, at 04:00 on Thursday.

He opened fire four times, hitting one of his assailants in the head. The others fled with a laptop and several bottles of whisky.

The wounded robber was later airlifted to hospital, where he was under police guard.

Sergeant Portia Maleka told Beeld that police suspected the robbers cut through a hedge on the estate to gain access to Lubbe's home.
