Pretoria - Seven men were arrested for the theft of copper cable from a storeroom on a plot in Byenespoort, Pretoria police said on Wednesday.

Some of the men were busy cutting cables while others were loading them into a truck when police arrived on Tuesday evening, said police spokesperson Johannes Jaftha.

"The recovered cables were estimated to carry a street value of R150 000," he said.

A tip-off to the police had led to the arrests.

Police were investigating the possibility that the men, aged between 24 and 63, were linked to similar crimes in the area.
