2013-01-31 08:30

Pretoria - The driver of a Pretoria train has been trapped inside his carriage after two passenger trains collided at Kalafong station on Thursday.

Emergency personnel were working to free the driver, Johan Pieterse told eNCA.

About 20 people were injured when a moving train slammed into the back of a stationary train.

"People should be advised that the line between Cor Delfos and Saulsville has been completely closed due to the accident," Pieterse said.

Pieterse said there were no deaths.

Why on earth was the driver in the carriage? Surely he should be driving the train?

You obviously dont how a Metro train the front carriage has a drivers cab. Metro trains dont work like locomotives they are powered from the bogies. This is correct

Was the driver of the moving train sleeping in the job? Why didn't he apply brakes when saw the stationary train. Aren't there suppose to be signals to inform of stationary trains or slow down signs

      wtlali - 2013-01-31 10:25

I work with trains and they are not like wheelbarrow that stop immediately if and when you stop them. I don't think the train driver would just continue driving seeing a stationary train in front of him4. Kiss on hes/her forehead

  • wackidmaledu - 2013-01-31 12:55

Metro Rail mst just stop being greedy and buy new trains...nd enhance the way their trains are being controlled...then the lifes of many will be saved....

  • mphos - 2013-01-31 15:04

Cable theft can't be a cause, who authorized that other driver to pass the signals at danger.
