Johannesburg - Disciplinary action will be taken against boys from a primary school in Vosloorus accused of committing sexual acts against two girls, the Gauteng education department said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane said two girls and six boys, aged between 7 and 9, were allegedly involved in the acts.

An investigation was under way and the department was awaiting the results of a medical examination report.

"The MEC and the premier visited Rebonthseng primary school in Vosloorus following allegations of rape," said Sekhonyane.

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi was briefed by the school management and school governing body; and also met with the parents of both the victims and the alleged perpetrators.

The following was decided:
- Counselling being offered to victims should be extended to their parents
- The school governing body should convene an urgent meeting to initiate a disciplinary process against the boys
- The school governing body indicated that the boys will be suspended whilst they convene the urgent disciplinary process
- A parents' meeting will be convened on Thursday afternoon to inform them about the incident and how the department is dealing with the matter.
