Principal accused of being drunk suspended

Johannesburg - The principal of a primary school in southern Johannesburg has been suspended for allegedly arriving for work drunk, the Gauteng education department said on Friday.

"He has been suspended, he will not be at school on Monday," spokesperson Charles Phahlane said.

The principal would be served with a charge sheet and an internal disciplinary process would begin.

The school and the principal could not be named as this could prejudice the process.

On Tuesday the department launched an investigation after a tip-off from Lead SA.

Officials visited the school and questioned the headmaster, who left the premises, but returned two hours later to fetch his car and found the officials still waiting for him.

It's obvious that this person is serious about his/her job.

@Bokfan. Now that is a stupid thing to say!

@Eric Schollar. It might be a stupid thing to say but it is unfortunately the truth. The incident yet again exposes the reality of BEE appointments under ANC policy. What is even worse is that I can make this statement without knowing the principal or the name of the school and be sure that my assumptions will be 99.9% correct.

I agree !! The ANC spokesman was stopped drunk at 8'oclock in the morning !!

Not fit for his job. Fire him.

Oh what a wonderfull example to our children. I just love the New South African education system. We are lucky to have a world class education system thanks to the unrivalled competence of the ANC.

i read in our local newspaper that the principal of a school on the Westrand Westridge High used school funds to pay for his trip to attend a wedding in Zimbabwe , now today i read about this drunk headmaster clearly the standards are dropping in our schools

Thats nothing, my sons principle in high school stole R2 000 000 and was suspended pending an internal investigation. Now we hear that he is coming back to the school as there was not enough evidence against him to convict. My hard earned tax money at work for what???

No the standard of education in this country has dropped so far below par that sending children to school is really a waste of time and hard earned cash.
