Probe a publicity stunt - SAJBD

2012-11-15 15:58

Johannesburg - The decision to bring the case of South African journalist Gadija Davids' alleged detention in Israel to the NPA was a publicity stunt, the SA Jewish Board of Deputies (SAJBD) said on Thursday.

"The decision constitutes yet another noisy publicity stunt by those dedicated to demonising Israel at every possible opportunity," the organisation said in a statement.

The National Prosecuting Authority's priority crimes litigation unit was investigating the detention of Davids in Israel after she was removed from a ship carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza in 2010.

Israeli authorities allegedly subjected Davids to "inhumane treatment".

She was handcuffed with plastic cable ties and left to sit in the sun for hours. She was held in an Israeli prison and denied consular assistance.

The board was confident local authorities would not allow the incident to be politicised and abused by anti-Israel groups.

"The SAJBD deplores the fact that these groups are willing to tie our legal system up in pointless and time-consuming, baseless litigation in order to further their own selfish and bigoted agenda."

She was on a ship that was illegally and deliberately in a place it should not have been. The ship was legally boarded and those aboard attacked and wounded those boarding. Did she expect them to give her special treatment and a cup of tea? Perhaps a facial for her delicate skin in the sun......

She boarded that ship of her own free will, and knew the consequences of being on a ship which just happened to have been warned that it would be boarded, occupied and people arrested. So therefore lady - go suck a lemon and get a life - since you came back home people have stopped shaking your hand and you are now in celebrity doldrums. Shame! It's really sad when some people have to resort to such measures for recognition.

The Zionist state is a terrorist state and it perpetrates human right violations on a daily basis. So detaining a South African woman was not aimed at the South African woman but just at her Islamic faith. They are the very antisemites they claim that others are. Damn straight they should be prosecuted

Do you have the same vitriol for the undemocratic islamic countries where human rights don't exist. Look at Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia...you are the anti-semite

If it had been the other way round, a Jewish woman entering Gaza, it would have been the end of her. I wonder why no one investigates the conditions that Gilad shalit was under cos I have a feeling they were a lot worse then this hers. Double standards!!
