Probe racist anthem - ANC

2012-06-29 07:54

Johannesburg - An urgent investigation is needed into abuse of the national anthem by artists and businesses, the Western Cape ANC said on Thursday.

Provincial secretary Songezo Mjongile was responding to reports that a Cape Town man buying a meal at take-away outlet KFC was shocked when a "vulgar, profane" version of the national anthem blasted out over the music system.

''Such blatant racism is untenable," Mjongile said.

"The ANC calls on all South Africans to distance themselves from this kind of intolerance and to unite on the side of non-sexism and non-racism."

The Cape Times reported that Tariq Mellett was waiting in the queue at the KFC in Buitenkant Street, Gardens, when he heard what sounded like the national anthem, Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika.

"It sounded like parts of the national anthem, but I was surprised when the song started in Afrikaans with: Nkosi Sikelel'... Nkosi is 'n doos, Mandela is 'n fokken kaffir... and so on, at full blast," he said.

"Two other customers and I were flabbergasted by the vulgarity, profanity and racism being belted out in a popular family restaurant."

Mellett said they shouted at the staff to switch it off, but this was done only after some time.

KFC's provincial manager Craig Davids told the newspaper it had referred the query to franchisor Yum Restaurants.

"We are in the process of looking into the matter, I can't comment until we have checked it out," he said.

Whoever wrote this song & whoever played this song needs to leave SA & never return!

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 08:24

Rather investigate Farm murders ! Many of those might well be the result of a certain " struggle " song, that continues to be heard.

      gavin.lott.9 - 2012-06-29 08:39

Fair enough Rob...but all these songs are doing no good for your average man on the street who just wants to get on with there's just completely unnecessary from both sides!

      Hein Van Wyk - 2012-06-29 08:40

you say it like you want to punish them...

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 08:57

@ gavin. It's all about priorities Gavin. Rather make a song & dance ( pun intended ) about some song heard in a fast food outlet, then the real problems that are taking place daily. One can almost see the ANC wringing its grubby hands in delight @ the prospect of " probing " this stupid issue. Typical victim mentality.

      gavin.lott.9 - 2012-06-29 09:05

@ Rob..whether it's the barbaric farm murders or black on black murders it makes no difference! it's all wrong & disgusting! And making a song & dance over this imo is important. We've seen what happens when shoot the Boer is sung..some idiots take it as a sign.

      BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-06-29 09:07

Sorry - but I say again: The Anc set the precedent on this one allowing 'hate songs'. I despise such songs no matter from which quarter they come from, but why does the ANC act so shocked? When they have set the precedent they should look to themselves and admit they were wrong in allowing their hate songs which are blatantly anti White and racist. Now they say we should unite against racism, whilst they are fast becoming the biggest racist outfit in the country. Sorry ANC - introspection time.

      gavin.lott.9 - 2012-06-29 09:07

And just for the record it does smell of BS...but either way I'm just sick of hate songs!

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 09:11

      @ Chief...Ja, my sentiments exactly.

      Junebugg - 2012-06-29 11:15

Rob 1. There is no hate song better than the other, a hate song is a hate song. Same thing in different branding. Its highly stupid of you to think some hate songs should be tolerated and others not. 2. read above again . 3.Murder should be a high priority for any person who is murdered, Taxi driver,farmer,lawyer...Not just for specific people..or are u trying to say other people are not important 4. The black guy who was highjacked by two White guys in Pretoria?? were those white guys black??? Generalization is only used by illiterate lazy people with low self esteem who uses their skin color to sound superior. 5. Blacks kill whites, Whites kill blacks, Blacks kill blacks ,Whites kill whites examples(Facts) : Blacks kill whites: Farmer killed in Freestate. Whites kill blacks: Johan Nel Blacks kill blacks : Taxi driver shot Whites kill whites examples: Johan Coetze. What do you say now?

      henrileriche - 2012-06-29 11:15

As usual when there's talk of "let's unite against racism.." it's only after a white incident. Black racism is conveniently ignored. If the SA (ANC) government (coincidentally not my government) had it's way, if racism had a colour in South Africa, it would be white. Maybe the SA government should clean in front of their front door first...

      henrileriche - 2012-06-29 11:17

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 11:34

Junebugg...Nice try....But..... 1. This was a song supposedly heard @ a fast food outlet NOT at a political meeting, with dancing singing fools getting themselves all worked up into a frenzy of bloodlust. 2. In your " Blacks kill Whites, your example is " Farmer killed in Freestate " It should read " Thousands of Farmers killed in SA ! THATS what I say now.

      Junebugg - 2012-06-29 11:48

Rob... Both songs are hate songs made by South African citizens..Therefore there is no difference. They are both hate songs, Non better than the other, hence I am struggling to understand your logic here,Its amazing that you still have people like you who would justify hate racist songs...You are no different from Malema,Steve hofmeyr and the rest..WE DO NOT NEED PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN OUR COUNTRY 2 crimes committed Rape and Murder, they are both crimes that should not be tolerated,,just like hate songs. Thousands of people get killed in SA every year, Victims from every races and criminals from every race so, I don't get your point?

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 12:08

Junebugg....People we dont need in this country. 1. Selfish overbreeders, who reproduce at an alarming rate, without the financial means to support their many offspring, thereby relying on tax payers social grants & being a burden to society. 2. These very same people, claim poverty, with little thought to the consequences of their selfish actions, which is cultuarlly driven. 3. Overbreeding results in poverty & unemployment problems. 4. People who are steeped in superstion & believe in witchcraft. 5. People who protest violently. 6. People who strike @ every opportunity. 7. People who rape, murder, steal & hold high govt positions and are well paid, but are corrupt & steal @ every opportunity. Get my point now ! And you worry about a song played in a fast food outlet ????

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 12:13

Junebugg...Tried to reply, but they deleted it within seconds. Pity. It was a great reply.

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 12:16

OK. Now it has just been reinstated.

      Junebugg - 2012-06-29 14:30

Rob ... You are very privileged that I am wasting my time for someone at your level...But why not. 1. You made your points in your previous comments, I replied with logic to all of them and I still do not see your counter argument. My guess is you realised that there is no substance to the comment you posted. I applaud you for that. 2. We are number 24 in the world in terms of population, I do not understand the "Over breeding" you are talking about...Our country is larger than most countries above us in terms of land.. and we are doing far more better than most countries above us. 3.When it comes to belief and culture, I always preach tolerance to each others cultures...There are thing white people dont agree with in the black race, and there are things black people dont agree with in the white race...again you are trying to make as if your race is superior than others... 4.Read above 5. People protest violently all over the world, USA, Europe, Asia, Other African countries, All races have peaceful protesters and violent protesters..Whhats your point?? if you saying I am wrong then prove it 6.That is done all over the world.. 7. Which continent doesnt have the same problems you mentioned?? name one and I will move there now!!!!! or which race is not affected by those problems or which race doesn't have perpetrators of those crimes? Yes we must worry about hate songs and racist songs...just as much as Shoot the boer was a high priority,no hate is greater than the other

      Jacques - 2012-06-29 14:37

@ Rob. Doesnt matter at who the song is directed, white or black, we have had enough of racist BULL to last us till the end of time. If we could have just focused more on bridging the gap instead making it larger, we might have had a different South Africa by now.

      chriswesley.perumal - 2012-07-01 06:58

Get a life you idiot, not everybody worships your god aka anc, rather see the real issues thats killing this country

  • gregory.wellsclifton - 2012-06-29 08:01

Unacceptable - fully agree - but then go on - do the investigation. Kill / maim the guilty and behead the manager - bankrupt yum - but please just do it. Don't let this go on and on and on like the genitalia exposition of a month or so ago. Eish!

      zaatheist - 2012-06-29 09:00

I'll wait for KFC to investigate. I never believe anything that the ANC comes up with as usually it is simply a manoeuvre to distract attention away from their abysmal record of governance and corruption.

  • altusvanzyl - 2012-06-29 08:05

I fully agree, probe it!! BUT also probe our national anthem when you left the \stem\ part out. What a slap in the face for all South Africans by our NEW nationalist party. Norons.

      marion.friedenthal - 2012-06-29 08:17

@altusvanzyl - was that at the conference? I never saw it, but my sister was very upset about that. If that is what you are referring to, did they say they were going to sing the national anthem or did they say they were going to sing the ANC anthem?

      drienie.kruger.10 - 2012-06-29 13:46

Junebug you clearly dont follow the news then.. It was stated that the ANC sang the 'national anthem' but left the english and afrikaans parts completely out. SO they only sang the part that the brother can understand , and discriminated against the english and afrikaans.

  • marion.friedenthal - 2012-06-29 08:07

Zap the singer(s) and fine the KFC outlet. I am proudly South African and I love and honour our anthem as a symbol of the reconciliation that was intended when it was compiled. Totally disgusted to hear about this.

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 08:26

So called loathing ( Not racism ) will only cease once black on white killings stop. These black criminals are the ones that are sowing the seeds of racial division.

      chriswesley.perumal - 2012-07-01 07:04

Bongie, no idea how you can say that -cause some of us are black and some is white - catch my drift?

  • dewalds3 - 2012-06-29 08:24

Eish, this Souff Efrika changes so quickly. Which is our national anthem again - is it 'Shoot the Boer' or 'Umshini Wam' or 'One Setller one Bullet'? But I agree, it is bad if they put racist words or meanings in any indigenous song.

  • theo.schoeman.71 - 2012-06-29 08:25

And you all believe that this actualy happened !! Let them investigate and I am sure its just another ANC western Cape stunt or making a Table mountain out of nothing.

  • jannie.kotze.7 - 2012-06-29 08:29

This is wrong, WRONG, WRONG, and should not be tollerated. However the ANC themselfs are guilty of rubish the anthem by not singing it at their conference in full. They left out the Afrikaans and English verses. So first get your house in order and lead by example. You the cANCer is responsible for people not respecting the countries symbols you idiots!!!!

      nico.eksteen.7 - 2012-06-29 09:06

I hope the other political parties take them up on this.

      Junebugg - 2012-06-29 09:50

Can you give me the link to your allegations Jannie..If they did that, they need to apologize to the nation...

      Khanya.McCutha - 2012-06-29 09:50

      Well said Jannie

      jeffrey.jones.357 - 2012-06-29 11:18

@junebugg, I read that one of the ANC delegates explained that they weren't singing the national anthem, but the anthem of the ANC as a political party, which I understood to mean it was the anthem they sang before they became the govt. Rightly or wrongly, that's how they saw it. I have mixed feelings about Nkosi sikele i'Afrika as a national anthem as it is a hymn about Africa and is used by a number of other African nations as their anthem. I think we should have a new national anthem altogether, not this dog's breakfast of two anthems that we have. The new anthem should be about South Africa as it is supposed to be a NATIONAL anthem, not a CONTINENTAL anthem. Then the ANC could sing Nkosi sikeleli too their hearts content and it would upset no-one.

      Junebugg - 2012-06-29 11:54

Ohh Jannie so its your assumptions..

  • dgrobler1 - 2012-06-29 08:37

I do condem that song, if it is true!! But how come when the ANC sings their Racial death threatening songs, nothing get done about it, but they call it their tradision history, strugle song. When anything is said or do for the whites, the blacks is quick to say we are "racists" F.. you all, I will stay a racist till things change for good for all in the no future SA

      Khanya.McCutha - 2012-06-29 09:50

  • audrey.lang.10 - 2012-06-29 08:47

Playing this song and calling people derogatory names are wrong,I think we can all agree on that. But staying on equality and what's good for the goose and all that, why is calling someone a bad name WORSE than telling people to kill someone? I mean really, even a 5 year old can see this.

  • africanwolf - 2012-06-29 08:51

The Government must stop their racist policies, like BEE AA sport quotas etc.. then racism will vanish on it's own. You can not introduce legal racism, and expect people to love you for it.

  • morne.smuts.1 - 2012-06-29 08:51

What a sad excuse for a human being who played that song...Has anybody here actually tried to get hold of kentucky to lodge a complaint? The chicken has been going backwards at roughly the same speed as our goverment, getting fatter and more greasy by the day. Maybe we must Spear them.HARD.

  • jacques.joubert.swart - 2012-06-29 09:02

I just knew they would jump on this... divert the attention away from all the pawpaw that is hitting the fan at their conferences by jumping on the next best ''racism'' bandwagon. First the Spear, now this thing being blown out of proportion... I mean really. To have such filth recorded is a disgrace, but it certainly doesn't warrant this type of hype, surely?

  • greg.quinn.353 - 2012-06-29 09:02

The song is about 18 years old and was sung and recorded first time in Gauteng. The song is rude, as it swears at poeple but it does not intice killings.

Racism will never go away, as long as we still have people who think that they are superior than others, as long as we still have people like steve hofmeyer. Some people think that their skin colour means alot than others.

      BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-06-29 09:16

So my friend - if Whites stand up for their rights, and point out the blatant anti White racism of the ANC, then you say it is because we think we're superior? What utter rubbish. White have the same rights you have, and we will stand up for those rights. It doesn't mean we think we are superior. Please try a little intelligent thought process for a change.

      peter.fraser.92754 - 2012-06-29 09:20

Dearest wisani.mathonsi1....the same can be said about blacks that think the whites "owes" them...dont you think so ? Dont you think Mr Malema and others also flare on the racists flame ? Or is it all onesided ? Have a lovely weekend.

      rob.baggaley - 2012-06-29 09:21

Right. As long as one race continually steals, murders & rapes members of another race, the hate & loathing will be there !

At all times, the anthem and the flag should be respected, doesn't matter what your political views would be...RESPECT, if you think back, in ther old SA you made jokes about the flag, anthem, and it was very public you had problems...but then again the goverment gets away with not showing respect to South Africans so the proof in in the pooding..

      wisani.mathonsi1 - 2012-06-29 09:29

I personally do notable believe this story, if a DJ uses a racist word on radio his life is shattered, if a radio station was belting out a racist song it would make INTERNATIONAL news as the world is so uptight about the mere mention of a racist comment. If falls to pieces with health issues and hunger, water shortage and war but we have to car if the N word was used or the K word, let alone the anthem which belongs soley to the ! dare I even say it... the black culture of south africa! I have googled and searched everywhere for the song that was BELTED OUT loudly and hey, if I can access movies still to be released in 2013, I can find this song???? Is this another ploy of the ANCient to rush RACISM to the forefront of our minds, to create more smoke and mirrors for us? What are they hiding today? What massive thing will hit us next week? It is like a punch and Judy show - Look what we (Judy) are doing over on stage right while Mr Zuma (Punch) on stage left is squirrelling away billions behind the curtains and in his pockets.
