Protector raid cops suspended

Johannesburg - The two crime intelligence officers who raided the office of the Public Protector on Wednesday evening have been suspended, the Hawks said on Saturday.

"This has been done in the interest of a thorough and transparent investigation," spokesperson McIntosh Polela said.

"The two officers have already provided statements to the Saps [SA Police Service] and an investigation is underway."

Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's spokesperson Kgalalelo Masibi on Friday said two policemen, a Colonel Maluleka and a Captain Nkuta, arrived at the offices, on the instructions of a Colonel Heine.

Without official papers backing up their request, they sought a document referred to in a Sunday Times report last week and wanted to know if it had formed part of the protector's findings regarding a police lease probe.

Polela asked that the media not speculate on specific issues regarding the investigation and promised that it would be finalised as quickly as possible.

"This will also be done in the interest of fairness to the people implicated," he said.

does cele know about the suspension of the duo??

      BlackSwan - 2011-03-05 09:29

Cele knows nothing - and accepts no responsibility for anything happening in his department General Teflon

  • Slapper - 2011-03-05 08:06

On Full pay I will bet. They will pop up somewhere else probably with a promotion.

      Organist-1 - 2011-03-06 09:59

Yea, Suspension in the ANC means a fully paid indefinite holiday probably with bomusses thrown in. As Slapper says, re-instated somewhere else with promotion. Cele is untrustworthy and even worse then his predecessor.

The person that gave the orders should be arrested, as a police officer you take orders from someone above you? they were doing what they were told told to and now they get suspended, not their superiors. Why?

  • Blip - 2011-03-05 08:29

So, why isn't the man who ordered these two high-ranking goons to perform the raid suspended too? And the person who ordered him to order those two now-suspended goons?

      Dan - 2011-03-05 08:52

That men is dead my firned, we will never hear the true story. I mean, we are speaking of the ANC here.

Why the instructor Colonel Heine is not suspended

      mduduzik - 2011-03-05 08:49

Easy, he has been promoted to another post.

  • Smindlo - 2011-03-05 08:48

    why is Cele not suspended?

      BlackSwan - 2011-03-05 09:42

If you suspend General Cele, the investigation will falter, and we will never get the truth General Cele, a pillar of society, who came through the ranks, sweated blood as a rookie on the beat, he is sorely needed by out fine police force

      wbcbaker1983 - 2011-03-05 10:45

      @blackswan. are you being serious??

      Jaimo - 2011-03-05 11:35

Maybe 'blackswan' means "force out- police fine needed"!

  • Dan - 2011-03-05 08:51

ANC still busy with their dirty politics, always trying to cover up their corrupt friends.

  • Foxx - 2011-03-05 09:08

If it was not cele, it was Roux Shabangu trying to find out what the PP has on him. Guaranteed

      BigD - 2011-03-05 10:36

So what is the difference. They are in this together

  • April - 2011-03-05 09:19

I sense coverup & scape goats!

  • multicon - 2011-03-05 09:36

A bit like a power struggle in the mafia

  • Law Abiding - 2011-03-05 09:48

No wonder crime is rampant. Not enough cops left to do the work, with all the suspensions.

      CheekySod - 2011-03-05 16:39

I wonder how many low income houses can be built, with the equivalent amount of money, to pay for this suspensions.

  • Jeff - 2011-03-05 10:10

Don't understand suspension on "RAID" card, the correct aspect is suspension on doing their work since this was a visit to do with whatever they were instructed to do. I don't remeber PP raising RAID story as published by the media. It was two gentlement asking for documents but did not raid. Come to sense, I think this matter is too politicised to capture the political aspect leading to local government election by opposition parties.

  • Serias - 2011-03-05 10:16

Don't worry, all corrupt cadres that are suspended everywhere are just re-deployed to the Dept of Home Affairs!!!!!!!

  • middelvinger - 2011-03-05 10:33

Those guys were doing their jobs - the same as the cop who stopped the Winnie criminal. In their case I smell rat - a corrupt very smelly rat by the name of Cele. The documents they were looking for implicates him in corruption.

  • Hugh - 2011-03-05 10:46

Smells of duplicity and typical smoke and mirror tactics.

  • poolingamr - 2011-03-05 11:01

Why only the two policeman were suspended. In the interests of all S Africans and if fairness should prevail, should not this mysterious Colonel Heine be repramanded as well. If not, then there is no justice being practiced to show real justice

  • Steve - 2011-03-05 11:12

Cele has been taken lessons from his wife.

  • Jaimo - 2011-03-05 11:27

So what?! Theyre all in it together, and beaides the Protector is more useless than the cops. Did you say PUBLIC Protector?? They definately dont serve public interest! so whose proptector are they/ I say close it down - just a beeg waste of money.

  • Jou - 2011-03-05 11:37

Thats just what we need. more cops on paid holiday. WAY TO GO.!!!

  • - 2011-03-05 12:19

Conspiracy, the 2 suspended officers followed instructions from Colonel Heine. Why was he not suspended and those who instructed him to get to the origin of the initial instruction. This is an attempt to shift attention away from the irregular lease procurement, Cele and Public Works.

  • Ben - 2011-03-05 13:21

The buck stops with Cele! He simply can't be innocent and should resign!!!

  • abrham - 2011-03-05 14:20
