Johannesburg - A teenager who allegedly stabbed a fellow pupil at school will appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, police said.

The 15-year-old allegedly stabbed his 16-year-old schoolmate twice with a pair of scissors during an argument at school, Captain Malcolm Pojie said on Monday.

The injured PW Botha College pupil was admitted to a local hospital after the stabbing on Thursday and was discharged a few hours later.

"The injured boy apparently made a racial slur that led to an argument between the two of them. At this stage I cannot reveal further details," Pojie said.

The teenager was arrested on Friday and was charged with assault. He was released into the custody of his parents.

Funny how a crime can be swept under the carpet if the perpetrator of the crime pulls out the racist card. Nobody stops to think that the old children's rhyme "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never harm me". Why not just ignore the "racist" taunting and prove that you are above all that childish nonsense. A racial or racist slure no warrants the "Death Sentence" but murder and rape do not. Strange place South Africa. - 2011-11-02 15:09

Why it is assault, and not attempted murder, is above me. A quote from Isaac Asimov's foundation trilogy comes to mind: "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent". If you cannot resolve an issue without violence, you know you are in trouble.

It is particularly worrying how violent the youth of today are. As young as 15 and yet he feels the only way to resolve an argument is to stab the other boy with a pair of scissors - TWICE?? When our future leaders of this country are taught that violence is the answer... We are doomed. What does the future of South Africa hold for our children... other than a light at the end of a tunnel that belongs to a train. Absolutely shocking!!!

OMG Why did they not change the school's name to something else ?/ Really P W Botha College leaves a bad taste in the mouth!!

@ Nkalakatha: A young boy (still a child) decides to stab a fellow student and the name of the school is what stands out as troublesome for you! Changing school names (or any names for that matter) won't educate our youth in mutual respect for and understanding of each other. Why not rather spend the money wasted on such frivolousness to empower our youth by teaching them the value of loving your fellow man - without bias towards ANY ethnicity.
