Pupils have bumpy start when bus collides with taxi

2015-09-07 11:09

Cape Town - The week got off to a shaky start for a group of pupils travelling to school on Monday morning, when their school bus was involved in a collision with a minibus taxi in Khayelitsha.

At least 40 children were injured in the accident on Lansdowne Road, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

"On arrival, paramedics found a school bus lying on its side in the middle of the road with a taxi parked a few metres away. Children that had been inside the bus had already started to climb out of their vehicle," he said.

On assessment, paramedics found that about 40 children had had been injured in the collision. Their injuries were only minor.

A section of the road was closed down to allow the paramedics to attend to the injured who were then transported to various hospitals.

The cause of the collision is being investigated.
