Pupils rampage at school after stabbing

2012-03-02 17:47

Cape Town - Pupils went on the rampage at a Johannesburg school on Friday, in the aftermath of the fatal stabbing of a boy at the school earlier in the week.

According to the Star newspaper, police had to be called in to Vorentoe High School in Auckland Park after emotions flared when pupils were told that the five boys allegedly suspected in the stabbing may be released on bail.

A large group - between 10 and 20 according to witnesses - brought classes to a halt just before 08:00 when they started smashing windows, writing on walls and disrupting other classes.

Teachers had been unable to stop the rowdy group and had called emergency services for back-up to help get the school under control, the Star said.

The chaos followed the brutal stabbing of a Grade 11 pupil just outside the school property on Wednesday.

Five pupils from another school were to appear in the Newlands Magistrate's Court after being arrested in connection with the murder.

That's right, smash the windows, destroy, destroy, destroy. Once that's done why not burn the school down as well? Then of course, you can go on the rampage again and demand another or better still, demand to pass.

      Jimmy - 2012-03-02 18:00

yup. think you about summed it up.

      Shirley - 2012-03-02 18:01

They follow the examples set by the parents!

      Nicholas - 2012-03-02 18:36

      Irene - 2012-03-02 18:40

Simnikiwe ~ You and I as well as the rest of the planet, know that statement never came out your facial orifice but somewhere else.

      chris.debeer1 - 2012-03-02 18:45

Clearly this Afrikaans name for this school is no LONGER applicable. Please change it to more appropriate struggle name like Ju lie to US Malema woodwork sckool

      Simnikiwe - 2012-03-02 18:48

Lol Irene you are so bright, that statement came out of my sit down.

      Bobo - 2012-03-02 19:25

@ Simnikiwe : I think you meant, thats what black kids do best...but on their defence we might think of something in the apartheid system that drove them to that certain point of no return...Maybe u can enlight us all regarding that ?

      Tony - 2012-03-02 19:45

Simnistinkywinky snorting Coke .... Out of the bottle....

      Simnikiwe - 2012-03-02 20:13

With "pleasure" Bobo you know mos your ancestors made my ancestors their slaves, they then developed and enriched themselves and left my ancestors in the dark. To sum it all up, your ancestors played dirty and gave you guys an unfair advantage, but thats nothing to lose sleep over, we are slowly catching up.

      Johan - 2012-03-02 21:20

@Simnikiwe....yes you do his mom but only because you raped and kill like you think a big man should

      Jaco - 2012-03-03 12:07

Simnikiwe! Yes, that is what your race can do best! Whine about the past and ...DO Woman! Your poor race. Now why don't you come right? Yep YOU CAN'T

      Christopher - 2012-03-03 17:03

@simnikiwe...I would not do your mom with a wooden barge pole. Would not want another one like you running around. Thats probably how you came about actually...That is why you thick as a plank.

  • Shirley - 2012-03-02 18:00

This is the future of our country! Gone are the days where you received an education at school-now you are taught to fight and destroy! Expel each pupil involved-they have no futre anyway!

      Shirley - 2012-03-02 18:07

  • marnusmnorval - 2012-03-02 18:02

People always go on a rampage when criminals are released on bail. Doesnt that tell the court something?? Wake up and smell the coffee. Set a date. Get all the evidence, prosecute the criminals and let the rot in jail. A 5 year old baby can understand that concept

  • LekkePerd - 2012-03-02 18:06

Bring back the Cane!!! Dissipline start at home and school Six of the best and polish the passages, wash the walls and paint them, clean the school grounds..

  • Hermann - 2012-03-02 18:07

That is it the struggle education - jungle justice, your way or no way - if you don't get your way make the country unruleable - that is what the parents did so why not the children? Meanwhile the so called struggle victors think name change is more important than education.

      Alex - 2012-03-02 18:26

Wow HermannH, you have skills. Managing to make even this about Apartheid and the struggle...

      Lindiwe Skosana - 2012-03-02 18:51

And how did this now turn into a discussion about apartheid and name changes???

      Alex - 2012-03-02 19:02

      Lindiwe, HermannH has skills....

  • Vuks01 - 2012-03-02 18:18

Maybe a name change is required here - Vorentoe High School -is not an appropriate name for this school - Such violence !!!

  • Chaapo - 2012-03-02 18:33

Typical - so the school's buildings are supposed to be the ones responsible for the stabbing? The senselessness of this is astounding but understandable when you see the way SAns react to anything - it now burnt into the DNA; poor service delivery - the response is to smash school buildings and burn libraries.

  • Chappies ZA - 2012-03-02 18:39

Lekker man lekker. Burn it down ... We have more than enough schools !!!!

  • Will - 2012-03-02 18:40

Education in the new South Africa! This shows the ineffectiveness of the laws of the country to protect people, the disrespect for life and property and how the youth of today act and live without any restraint because of lack of effective discipline and positive parenting...... Quo Vadis?????

  • Wayne - 2012-03-02 19:05

  • Don - 2012-03-02 19:11

The facts to this murder are very secretive, why ?. Who was this student and what happened ? Is this racial ? What was the apparent motive ? Who are the children causing the chaos today and why ? Even if they are minors why so secretive about the alleged facts ?.

  • bloubul77 - 2012-03-02 19:41

Take the sjambuk! Too many rights, is bringing this country down. Bring back the cane!

  • Nigel - 2012-03-02 19:42

out of 148 countries SA ranks 145 in education, thats 3 last. SA spends the 6th highest per GDP per person on education, we suck so bad that is it disgusting, this is just another reason why SA education is the worst in the world when you look at the money wasted on it & our results.

  • Tony - 2012-03-02 19:43

The "nooooo Soufafrica", aww I preferred the old one.... Never got to demand, burn school, break school, teachers never went on strike, Matric was worth something, we learned manners, respect was fashionable, books were on time and we didn't kill each other.....

  • bloubul77 - 2012-03-02 19:53

Bring the sjambuk! Too many rights and time to bring back the cane or else ....

  • Lynda - 2012-03-02 20:15

Aw come on press.......a large group of 20???? That means another 900 or so were not on the rampage, so we have to make this into a massive racial incident. Sounds to me that it is most likely gang related and nothing to do with lack of discipline, apartheid, lowered education standards or any of the other things people are going on about!

      Henri James Christie - 2012-03-04 08:49

Yep, but the minority stuff it up for the majority. Are they too dumb to realise that the school is not making the decision to release the culprits, the legal system is making the call.

  • Tina - 2012-03-03 08:12

  • Lesley - 2012-03-03 09:32

Why do they always have to go on the rampage? Something lacking here.

      wally.snr - 2012-03-03 16:28

Because they dont pay for anything..........not even tax

  • Jimmy - 2012-03-04 09:58

nothing in this country for be for free. especially education. if you pay for something, you are investing in its wellbeing. who cares about looking after free stuff? you dont place value in that kind of item. i'm not saying paying huge sums of money, just something. health care too. don't complain about the free stuff, beggars can't be chosers. put some effort into the system instead of complaining the whole time about free things. 'no pay, no say'

  • marene.duplessis - 2012-03-05 13:01

It is truly sad that matters like this always end up in a mud-slinging match about apartheid and the past! TIME TO MOVE ON!!! Last time I checked this school is multi-racial and some-one lost their life! It seems everyting gets resolved with violence and intimidation! BULL CRAP!!!! I'm a proud ex-Vorie with strong values instilled by the system! Time to go RETRO!!

  • Megan SwartSkapie - 2012-03-22 08:19

@simnikiwe - your comment was totally inappropriate, that myself a black girl can say that. Were you born in the years of apartheid?! My mother was and she told me all of the stories and funny enough, she has no grudge against any white person. It was in the past and its time to grow up and move on. Your ancestors are dead! Mine as well and I really don't care about what happened to them because that is in the past. We all live equally and instead of you whining that \white people are more privileged\ you can make a difference in your life, without hate! So wake up and smell the coffee dear.. Those years are gone. We all have moved on and if u not happy with ur life, do yourself a favour and jump off a bridge. I love all races and nothing is going to stop that, even narrow minded, brainless people like you! Word groot man!!!
