Randfontein farm murder 'appalling'

2012-05-03 10:31

Johannesburg - The murder of a mother of two during a robbery on a farm outside Randfontein was an act of cruelty, the Christian Democratic Party said on Thursday.

"The level of cruelty during farm murders is so appalling that it is impossible not to be outraged by them," CDP leader Theunis Botha said.

Beeld newspaper named the woman as Venessa Stafleu, 34, from the farm Doornfontein 2. Botha said her murder followed the death of a 75-year-old woman, killed on her farm near Citrusdal.

“Some of these farm murders appear to be indiscriminate and are perpetrated only to satisfy some thirst for blood. We regard it as highly irresponsible that the government has not declared farm murders a priority crime,” he said.

The woman was shot and killed when robbers broke into her home at about 20:00 on Monday, said Captain Appel Ernst. Her two children, aged 3 and 5, were in the house at the time.

Money and guns were stolen. At the time, the woman's husband was driving back to the house.

    An act of genocide.

      jacob.ndlovu.3 - 2012-05-03 11:05

I agree! There is plenty of horrific crimes in South African that makes one think that our only solution to the rampant crime is capital punishment, but with an inefficient and corrupt criminal justice system and government, what can one expect? How is it possible that South Africa is the only country in which one is more likely to be murdered than killed in a road accident. These scum bag criminals murder farmers because they dislike them because certain government leaders sing and chant hate songs against white people. Dubula Ibhulu is not a joke, it promotes these crimes to the incompetent person in the poor areas. So instead of them going to rob you and leave you unharmed, they know that the ANC and its comrades endorse Dubula Ibhulu which means kill the white man/, unfortunately they will do what they have been told to do even though they might get a prison sentence which means nothing to them. Have you not heard of Uhuru....look it up!! That lingers inside of them like a parasite!Unfortunately, without the death penalty the only fear of committing a crime is a jail sentence and that's if criminals get caught & convicted because our courts are inefficient and backlogged! Arm yourselves especially if you are a farmer and defend yourselves because you cannot rely on the cops or the courts!Either a new competent government takes over or declare the Western Cape & Northern Cape a separate country or we just live in fear and misery!

      Rob - 2012-05-03 11:07

No word from the ANC ?

      hester.ferrezuelo - 2012-05-03 11:25

Whoever gave you the thumbs down are obviously part of the problem. They see nothing wrong with the brutal cowardly killing of a young mom who has left very young children behind. It is for reasons like this that I am grateful that there is life hereafter. They will burn in hell for eternity!! Because on this earth and in this life they will not get their due punishment. May God have mercy on us.

      thebe.tau - 2012-05-03 12:01

\An act of genocide\ ok let's all agree to that, then what mr Brett, from now on let's offer solutions, no more repeating the same thing everyday- its not helpful. The farmers are sitting waiting to be offered solutions.

      Janice - 2012-05-03 12:30

@Rob, I agree, but dont forget, we live in a 'safe' country!!!

      Martin - 2012-05-03 15:25

rob the anc condone it, they arm criminals, they say and do nothing therefore the anc went onto that farm and shot that woman in cold blood,

  • Mattewis - 2012-05-03 10:44

"Highly irresponsible"? When they disbanded the Commando Corps protecting farmers, that was irresponsible! This is nothing more than the silent endorsement of genocide! They cannot claim ignorance either, as the internationally recognized genocidewatch organization has upgraded South Africa's status six months ago. This happens so frequently now that people are just beyond outrage!

      Marion - 2012-05-03 10:58

It would be great if they could bring the Commando Corps back. There definitely needs to be a visible security presence in farming communities and rural villages as they are isolated and vulnerable.

      Koos - 2012-05-03 12:38

The rural protection plan is still to be released. Perhaps there is no more money or not enough that can be stolen in executing the plan. The Commando's were the first protection entity that were disbanned. Lets you think.

      Gert - 2012-05-03 15:24

Marion--that will not happen easily. The anc is for the killing of farmers --that will solve the land issues scaring whites of the farms without spending money that they could rather pocket. That is why they removed it--IT WORKED IN FAVOUR OF THE FARMERS AND GAVE THEM SECURITY---THIS IS PART OF THE ANC'S GENOCIDE PROGRAM AGAINST WHITES.

  • Koos - 2012-05-03 10:46

It is time that the whites see it for what it is. We all know that it is not normal crime, we all realise that but we prefer to play it down. We prefer not to accept reality. Believe that it will stop. It WILL stop at some point in the future, when all whites are murdered. That is the reality of the situation. Trust a African at your own peril.

      Marion - 2012-05-03 10:59

Then I'm in great peril. I'm also an African - albeit a white one.

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-03 11:05

      @Koos, what should be done?

      Piet - 2012-05-03 11:55

@JJ - The argument is not that crime affects ALL races – we all know that. What makes me SICK is the fact that these horrific crimes are 99% of the time committed by Africans.

      Chanel - 2012-05-03 11:55

@JJ - Please give an example of white people killing black farmers...

      JJ - 2012-05-03 12:01

@ Piet, I understand what you mean and I agree that it is mainly black people commiting crimes. It is a problem, and I refuse to make excuses for it (I never have and never will). It is, however, unfair to paint us all with the same brush. The people commiting these crimes are criminals, and all crimes should be dealt with equally in terms of execution of the arrest and severity of punishment. @ Chanel did you even read my post? Where did I mention such a thing...all I said was crime affects everyone. Please read my above reponse to Piet and read a comment properly before you decide to make an irrelevant comment.

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-03 12:11

@Piet, if the the black group accounts for 80% of the SA population and the black population is the most poorest group. You wouldn't be surprised much by your stats. Its logical and common sense.

      Rob - 2012-05-03 12:22

Siyadyosiba....Poor through overbreeding & why the killing ?

      Piet - 2012-05-03 12:30

@siyadyosiba 1. killing an UNARMED WOMAN in front of her two toddlers is no crime – it is a cowardly act of terror driven by hate towards (obviously) white people 2. being poor grants you NO right to commit crime – how often do you hear about poor whites TORTURING and MURDERING innocent and often elderly people 3. even in countries like the USA with a white population of 72%, the majority of crime, especially violent crimes like murder and rape are committed by AFRICAN Americans

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-03 12:32

@Rob, don't get wrong, I'm not saying the killing is justifyable. I'm just saying the population stats, through logic, wouldn't surprise if 8 of 10 crimes are committed by blacks. Additionally, it has been proven that poverty is another cause of crime, so the stats on "crimes committed by blacks" as challenged by Piet makes sense "to me". I'm just talking stats and logic.

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-03 12:43

@Piet, point 1... I agree point 2... I agree point 3... I dont agree. Please watch Crime and Investiagtion Channel and watch CNN more often. You will agree your stats are flawed. But this is not what I wanted us to discuss on my first comment. Read my second comment. The subject here is the brutal and unaccepatble killings of our farmers. Period.

      Piet - 2012-05-03 13:55

@siyadyodsiba SIGH…. Considering CNN and Crime and Investigation Channel as trustworthy sources just shows your ignorance. Consult the following TRUSTWORTHY and ACKNOWLEDGED sources to re-think your response to my statement: United States Census Bureau ( The US Federal Bureau of Investigation ( US Marshals ( US Department of Justice ( Maybe a nice graph will help you? (source Wikipedia)

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-03 14:02

      Thanks Piet.

      Martin - 2012-05-03 15:50

i just want the right to protect myself and others with deadly force if necessary legalised, cos i will do so regardless of the law, it took a while but im prepared to accept the consequences of those actions in full.

  • Bradley - 2012-05-03 10:49

Argh!! i want these blood suckers in my iron sight!! show these cowards what it feels like when they have to fighting fire with fire...

      Bradley - 2012-05-03 11:04

and too the thumbs down...stick it where the sun don't shine!

  • richard.hipkin - 2012-05-03 10:52

Keep your firearm on you at all times and learn how to use it effectively - rather face murder charges that won't stick then to be dead..

  • janet.mcdonaldbelstead - 2012-05-03 10:53

Make the army compulsory again and deploy the defence force to assist in the protection of the farmers (and rhino's). This will teach the youngsters of today some respect and responsibility, and take the pressure off the police force.

      Shanelle - 2012-05-03 11:05

I agree Janet. We all need to stand together against this just like we do against the e-toll. @Brett stop bringing in "genocide". Like you said earlier, education doesn't stop stupidity, you are proving it in your comment. You are delusional if you think blacks are approve of farm murders, or any murder for that matter. This is the work of criminals, sick individuals who need to pay for what they do in the worst way possible.

      Rob - 2012-05-03 11:10

We dont really have an " army " anymore. Well not one you could count on anyway. Probably find some offduty " soldiers " are involved in farm killings. Well those that are able to get out of bed in the mornings.

      Brett - 2012-05-03 11:35

Shanelle it is you who is delusional. I really would prefer not to debate with a person who lives in denial and is devoid of logic. Just visit it might open your eyes.

      msalim002 - 2012-05-03 12:45

problem with this,if you make army compulsory, you are now teaching some criminals the art of war.So adding fuel to the fire.Gov will just look at numbers and not critriea

      Shanelle - 2012-05-03 12:54

Brett, have you heard of a thing called propaganda? Read up on it. That's how Hitler took over. Because people didn't do proper research and believed everything that was told to them. Like I said we need to stand together. The more you just talk about white people being victims the more you isolate yourselves. Crime affects us all and the truth is the government is not doing enough to sort this mess out. South Africa is our country and as citizens we all deserve more we pay them enough taxes and they need to be held accountable. We need to stop the negativity and speak with one voice. We've done it before, we can do it again.

      Brett - 2012-05-03 13:07

@Shanelle so when I have seen government leaders sing kill the boer along with throngs of supporters, that was just propoganda? Ever heard of a thing called reality?

      Heiku - 2012-05-03 13:49

Only for men then? The army? Or compulsory for everyone?

      Shanelle - 2012-05-03 14:11

@Brett, maybe if you tried to make friends with black people you will come to see that what I am saying is true. Until then you will keep believing that story. I dare you, go ahead and make real friends with some black people. See it first hand.

      Martin - 2012-05-03 16:16

Shanelle is right Brett, i have never been treated bad, or just judged by black africans, no whites ever call me their brother, i can sit amoungst my friends and be myself, wit ous have never said pull in for a meal and beer around the fire, we not very different, just in tradition, when im in a township i know if i get robbed all hell will break loose and the criminal will be caught right on the spot, the white community has no community spirit, they just watch... i know whos side im on in this, the good people of all races.

      janet.mcdonaldbelstead - 2012-05-05 09:31

Compulsory for everyone - male, female, it, black, white, pink or yellow... if you're an SA citizen, between 18 and 21, whether or not you have a grade 10 or grade 12 school certificate. Army in "those days" may have been tough, but there is nothing wrong with the individuals who have attended the army. It teaches responsibility and respect, amongst other things. Kids of today could do with a few lessons!

  • siyadyosiba - 2012-05-03 10:57

Total unfortunate and tragic farm muder reports. May their soul rest in peace.

  • Marion - 2012-05-03 11:01

RIP Venessa and sincere condolences to your children and other loved ones.

  • leigh.ridgway - 2012-05-03 11:24

So where is Shannon and her comments today? Seems to me that she has a very bitter pill to swallow after ranting nonsense yesterday.

  • hester.ferrezuelo - 2012-05-03 11:28

@ Brett. Those who gave you thumbs down obviously are part of the problem. They really couldn't care that this young mom was brutally and cowardly murdered and left two young innocent children behind. It is times like this that I am so grateful that I believe in a life hereafter because on this earth and in this lifetime they will not get their due punishment but God will punish them and they will burn in hell forever!!

  • Pacific - 2012-05-03 11:53

The ANC are behind the farm murders!

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-03 12:03

That's ridiculous. I'm ANC and I condemn this pandemic with all my might.

      Koos - 2012-05-03 12:46

You don't because you still vote for incompetance.

      Gert - 2012-05-03 15:28

  • Shirley - 2012-05-03 11:54

No matter how much they deny this it is genocide! It continue to grow in intensity and government sit idly by and do nothing! When food production stops, there are thousands starving-will they then think to act? They should take this to the constitutional court, after all our constitution says we have the right to be safe and government are failing to provide this!!!!!!

  • Angelica - 2012-05-03 11:56

Sorry to say but if if they bring back the death penalty for murderers then it wont happen!!!! BRING THE DEATH PENALTY BACK enough iS ENOUGH!!!

      siyadyosiba - 2012-05-03 12:05

this is probably the idea we can all, collectively channel our efforts on. If the majority can prove that they need death penalty back, it will happen.

  • Psalm - 2012-05-03 12:17

"We regard it as highly irresponsible that the government has not declared farm murders a priority crime." COMMENT: Theunis Botha is clearly clueless. As a tax paying South African citizen I also expect MY safety to be a PRIORITY TOO - not just the safety of some farmers!

  • Mike Purchase - 2012-05-03 13:45

Leka one koos.Malema should be hanged he has made it worse.

  • Martin - 2012-05-03 15:22

unless the domestics knew about the guns, its tip offs by police to their criminal contacts, no other way they know there are firearms
