Rape accused nurse back in court

2013-02-08 07:28

Johannesburg - A nurse accused of raping a dying, paralysed cancer patient in the National Hospital in Bloemfontein will appear in the city's high court on Friday.

Kodisang Moema, 34, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of rape.

Clinical pathologist Adri Krieger testified on Wednesday that the 50-year-old patient had been paralysed in the lower part of her body for about a year when the alleged rape took place.

Krieger said the woman's injuries were difficult to identify and describe, and that while she could not positively identify them as rape-related, she could not exclude a possible rape.

The woman had told her that although she had no feeling in the lower part of her body, she had known what was happening on the night of the alleged rape, and had seen what was going on by the light in a passage.

Moema was arrested after the woman, who has since died, alleged that she was raped at night in a ward at the National Hospital in Bloemfontein.

The woman's husband told the police the attack happened on October 15.

The woman could not identify the woman nurse she claimed held her down during the rape.
Moema is out on bail.

Animals, dear people, are instinctive. Human beings have the intelligence to determine and know the difference between right and wrong. Work it out for yourself.

      koo.doyle - 2013-02-08 09:23

Shelley, there is one major differentiator between humans an animals. The ability to distinguish right from wrong. Or perhaps I speak just for myself here?

Love the way a white doctor's picture is displayed on the story when clearly, the accused rapist was neither female nor white.

  • reynardt - 2013-02-08 08:22

Retribution, in this life or the next.

  • reynardt - 2013-02-08 08:27

If I was her husband I would sort this out myself. There will be no other justice; the demon will walk away smiling.

      kallie.joubert.7 - 2013-02-08 08:40

Reynardt that's my thought as well. I would have taken care of it myself because this bastard doesn't deserve bail, he deserves the death penalty.

  • Keshree Govender - 2013-02-08 08:40

this is extremely disturbing, when someone is at the weakest, fellow humans are expected to give support and comfort and instead they choose to harm and cause more pain. what has happened to society and its morals. more people need to turn to God to save them from the devil which is very evidently taking over their lives.

  • morne.lamont.7 - 2013-02-08 08:45

The death penalty should be brought back and it should include acts like these against children woman and the eldery All these criminals are cowards , they cannot take a healthy man on 1 on 1 The break-in in groups they rape in groups and the worst is we are all scared of them .MAybe we should make BUNDU JUSTICE our SHARIA law Then well see where the cowards go

"Rape accused nurse back in court" this headline says... This takes rape a step further which is that there is now a problem in some cases where people are claiming "rape" when it wasn't which in itself is an even darker crime,as it puts the victims at greater risk by under mining the credibility of the true and real victims. Just as men are men by nature,so too are women "women" by nature. That nature is that both are equally sexual beings with equal right to self-determination as to how to express that nature.Treating women or men as 'different' to yourself in this regard,as is happening in some cultures and religions, leads to this sort of abuse as one sees happening openly here in South Africa.

This animal needs to be dismembered , and then hung over a pit of predators ie lions or leopard's ,by a meat hook and slowly lowered to his death and when I say slowly I mean tortoise speed so he can reflect on his approaching death.

  • phahla.matwa - 2013-02-08 09:16

This article really shocked us to the core. I cannot believe we live in a country where you cant even go to hospital in safety. What the hell kinda place is this new SA... wish I could just run away!! I feel so for her husband..

  • winifred.watson.9 - 2013-02-08 09:50

Here we this rapist enjoying his freedom whilst out on bail. This is sick. Who rapes a woman under these circumstances and whatsmore what type of nurse would assist in a rape and stand by and watch. What was it excitement and thrilling to rape somebody who could not fight back. We need to see people like this locked up for a very long long time including the helper. Just now we will have to hire security guards to stand at the bottom of our hospital bed and even thats a risk. This is really really sick and the harshest punishment needs to dealt out.

  • benjamin.dekoker - 2013-02-08 09:52

This doesn't bowd well for future male nurses. But let us remember that it is innocent until proven guilty. But if he is guilty he out to be ashamed of himself.

      benjamin.dekoker - 2013-02-08 12:46

Sulette I agree fully. The reported involvement of a female nurse who reportedly held the victim down, is a bit puzzling. What? Is raping a paralyzed dying cancer patient some kind of kinky foreplay. If they [male female nurse] are concenting adults than they could have had intercourse with eachother. The whole thing is just sickening. But the story seems very vague but maybe that is what their sick minds were banking on.

  • Sulette Behnke - 2013-02-08 09:54

I wonder if it was his first offense or just the first time someone said something. Did he see oppertunity in sodomising a paralyzed person as she would not feel it? Does he think that since she's paralyzed it doesn't count? I would try and figure out WHY he chose to become a nurse in the first place. Oppertunity?

  • mercia.willox - 2013-02-08 11:26

The woman could not identify the woman nurse!!!! lees ek dit reg??

  • anitahoeftman - 2013-02-09 12:29

No animal or human deserves to die like this. We cannot blame government, but government can play a part to change it. Murderers and rapist must be locked away deep in an old mine, food lower to them in a bucket, never to see any person - take all their rights away - the don't deserve it. The do not deserve the sun shining over them.

  • leonorabinedell - 2013-02-12 07:05

Find the nurse who held her down and cut the nurses breast off. As for the male nurse cut his PENIS OFF.
