Johannesburg - Two men were arrested for separate incidents of rape in the North West, police said on Saturday.

In the first incident, a 26-year-old man was arrested for raping a 7-year-old girl in Grasfontein in North West on Friday night.

Captain Pelonomi Makau said the mother of four siblings aged between two and 12-years-old left her children in the house to attend a function in the area.

"According to the information, the suspect managed to unlock the door and raped the victim. The 12-year-old-boy managed to alert the neighbours who called the police to the scene," she said.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Makau said the man was later arrested at a tavern and would appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrate's court on Monday on charges of rape.

In the second incident police arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly raping a 18-year-old woman at the Boikhutso township, Lichtenburg, on Friday night.

"It is alleged that both the suspect and the victim were at a tavern when the suspect asked the victim to accompany him to his place to fetch money," Makau said.

"When the victim refused he assaulted and forcefully dragged her to his place where he allegedly raped her," she said.

The man released woman after his family intervened when they heard the victim's screams.

He was later arrested and would appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of rape and assault with intend to do grievous bodily harm.
