Bloemfontein - The Bloemfontein High Court on Thursday sentenced a 24-year-old man to two life terms for rape and a further 10 years for kidnapping.

Kholisile Elliot Makeleni's sister took him to the Mangaung police station to be arrested after she was informed the police were looking for him.

Makeleni raped three victims, including a 6-year-old girl, in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

One evening in January 2013, a 25-year-old woman was surprised by three men in the area of Chris Hani in Mangaung.

Makeleni, one of the attackers, threatened the victim with a knife. She was dragged to a nearby field, undressed, and raped.

About a month later, the second victim - a 15-year-old girl - fell prey to Makeleni. She was also threatened with a knife and forced into an open field, where she was raped.

In April 2014, Makeleni forced a 6-year-old schoolgirl into the South Park Cemetery, where he raped her.

Earlier he had carried the kicking and screaming girl on his shoulders, telling curious bystanders that the little girl was refusing to go to school. She was also raped.

“Makeleni was identified in the streets of Khotsong in Mangaung by one of his victims two weeks after the incident,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Billy Jones.
