Rapist gouges girl's eye out

2012-04-25 16:55

Durban - An 8-year-old girl has been bitten, had an eye gouged out and been raped, in Gingindlovu, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Wednesday.

Her attacker dragged her into a sugarcane field next to her home, where her grandmother was waiting for her to get back from school on Monday, police spokesperson Captain Thulane Zwane said.

"The 8-year-old victim could barely walk, but managed to drag herself into the yard in front of her house before collapsing. She was dressed in her school uniform and was dishevelled and dirty."

The girl was taken to a clinic, and from there to a hospital.

"He gouged her left eye out of the socket, and tried but failed with the right eye, which was left swollen shut. She was bleeding profusely from both eyes," said Zwane.

"The suspect also bit her in the neck, raped her and left her lying helplessly on the ground."

There was also an attempt to strangle her.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested and expected to appear soon in court in Gingindlovu.

Police were investigating whether he was involved in an attack involving a Grade 6 pupil earlier in the day.

Gingindlovu is about 60km southeast of Richard's Bay.

KwaZulu-Natal health department spokesperson, Chris Maxon, said the girl was initially taken to Eshowe Hospital, but was then transferred to Ngwelezane Hospital, in Empangeni.

She was undergoing surgery late on Wednesday afternoon. He could not comment on her condition, or whether her sight had been saved.

  • Marion - 2012-04-25 16:58

Totally barbaric. No words to express how this makes me feel.

      Dries - 2012-04-25 17:02

      Really sad

      Greg - 2012-04-25 17:09

Is a human being even capable of doing something so astoundingly shameless and brutal!! ...and to think that if it turns out to be the 15 year old boy, he'll more than likely be put into a diversion program and be on the streets again within a year... shocking!!

      Christelle - 2012-04-25 17:16

Thumbs down???? I am sure the 15 year old would have given a thumbs down too - makes one wonder about the face behind these thumbs down?

      Oscar - 2012-04-25 17:26

No Greg, a human is not capable of doing something so brutal but there are certain species of living things that almost look like humans for which this conduct is quite common.

      spartanx93 - 2012-04-25 17:31

and they call them self human!

      Rob - 2012-04-25 17:38

15 ! Pure Evil. No doubt the " parents " will be wailing in court that their son is a " good boy. "

      Oscar - 2012-04-25 17:49

      Christelle, I agree with you a 110%.

      rbphiri - 2012-04-25 17:59

The lack of lengthy sentences and total leancy on criminals culminates to barbaric, sadistic, heinous crimes such as this. Quite senseless, chances are the 15 year old boy will either be sent to a psychologist instead of being treated like a criminal. He can't be regarded as a minor, his well aware of his actions. He tried gouging the eyes in order for the victim to not make a composit description of her attacker. When will government intervene? how many more victims until we start taking an initiative. I don't condone violence but in such cases i wouldn't shed a tear if the story was concluded with the boy's death due to mob justice.

      champ.bopape - 2012-04-25 18:27

      It is satanic.

      sachasea - 2012-04-26 00:24

Savages!!! South Africa should adopt a zero tolerance to rapists. Mandatory 35 years in jail. Lock all of those low life scum up. They are despicable and give all of us South African men a bad name. F*** them! I wish eternal damnation upon them.

      Brandon - 2012-04-26 05:37

He should not be allowed to live!

      Lorain - 2012-04-26 07:41

@ Champ I completely agree with you, you have to be possessed to even think of doing this to someone, never mind to actually go through with it.

      winston.mullany - 2012-04-26 07:45

What amazes me is how many thumbs down people are getting with regards to their comments, Marion, you get 6, Dries gets 4, Oscar gets this time. I wonder what type of person would then give a thumbs down on a topic like this. Obviously rapists themselves? Criminals? Or people who just don't have a F&%$ing heart!

      Lisa - 2012-04-26 08:28

Sachasea, i totally agree with your zero tolerance policy - except i think jail is too kind for these bastards - they should bring back the death penalty!! and even for minors, as it seems lately, they are becoming a massive problem!!

      VaMbozha - 2012-04-26 09:18

the next thing is we hear the boy is a minor so this and that...whether the barbarian is 15 or 35 the extent of the crime and how it affects the victim is the same, he is old enough to know what is wrong and what is right so must face the consequences. I say the chop that small manhood and let it be the last time he used it!

      nasheenar - 2012-04-26 14:42

What we need is the death penalty! Young innocent children are being tortured and its seems to be ok!

      Nathan - 2012-04-26 16:02

winston.mullany there are many trolls on here who deliberately thumbs down comments... don't take it personally. There are all kinds of people trolling these forums, school children, etc who have nothing better to do with their time. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the little girl, no-one deserves to have this happen to them...

      sachasea - 2012-04-26 20:03

Is the topic of rape ever discussed in schools these days? It definitely should be alongside sexual education. A topic like this may not be easily spoken about, but we need to make sure that our kids are aware of the precautions that they can take to avoid it. Young men also need to know that it is never acceptable or tolerable in a caring society. I believe that education is a key weapon in the battle against rape. Are there any anti-rape organizations in SA?

  • Gcwabe.KaMavovo - 2012-04-25 17:00

What a sad country we live in. What a horrific story. I'm speechless.

      Christelle - 2012-04-25 17:06

True - what a sad country we live in - all product of a lawless society where we are set an example that people can virtually get away with murder. And our government is too busy with their own damn agendas(and weddings) to be concerned about what is really serious!!!!

      Arthur - 2012-04-25 18:32

      Totally agree with you Leonard.

      Lorain - 2012-04-26 07:36

There is something wrong in the message that is sent out by law enforcement in this country. For some or other reason people are not deterred from doing crime it seems they rather feel encouraged to do the most vile things to other people.

  • Bronwyn - 2012-04-25 17:01

My daughter is 8! May you BURN in everlasting hell you disgusting thing! I'm at work in tears...again...

  • camp.j - 2012-04-25 17:01

If you mature enough to commit a crime like this, you are mature enough to die for it. Hand him back to her community, let mob justice handle the case

      VaMbozha - 2012-04-26 09:20

dont know why mob justice is not available when really needed

  • Princess - 2012-04-25 17:01

Excuse my language but give the f*cker to the public, I would give anything to deal with this sick f*ck myself! I hope he rots on Earth and in hell. Sick to my stomach.

      melanie.albertyn - 2012-04-25 17:29

Totally sick. We can all scream and jump up and down to hang this bastard, but we do not have the death penalty........ So this 15 year old boy is going to be protected ( because of his rights), not named in public and will maybe get 5 years. And what about this little girl? Her young life is shattered. I wonder if our prez reads the paper or online news?????

      carpejugulim - 2012-04-26 06:12

He will be protected because he is a minor ... if they are old enough to commit and adult crime they are old enough to be tried and sentenced as an adult. Another prime candidate for euthanasia

      VaMbozha - 2012-04-26 09:22

if they protect him coz he is a minor..then they will be raising the devil himself giving him food and shelter!

  • Sharon - 2012-04-25 17:02

15 years old this time. Another product of our proud new South Africa. Thabo Mbeki said: "Give us 12 years, and we will produce for you educated productive young people. Crime is due to lack of education" Note to government: you have FAILED, these oxygen-thieving rapists are what you produced!

      Arthur - 2012-04-25 18:09

      Sadly... so true.

      Jaja - 2012-04-25 18:35

@sharon. I dont think that education has something to do with it. For example, I knew someone who is varsity educated and yet he raped one of his best friends. I think the problem is that these fu*kers feel entitled to get what they want and the fact that the goverment is not doing anything to curb this violence. They get the most lenient sentences and it makes me so sick!

  • Smile - 2012-04-25 17:03

BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY|!!!! people like that should hang - no mercy!! his eyes should be gouged out so that he will NEVER be able to do this to someone else - how barbaric!!! it is sickening to the stomach!!

      Gerry - 2012-04-25 17:14

I was an ILS medic with Metro EMS in Cape Town (so-called violent crime capital of SA) during 70's and early 80's. NEVER did I or any of the other crews come across the amount of sexual violence that is reported DAILY in the press. My heart bleeds for the little girl and her family. DISGUSTING what has been bred into the youth of today!

  • grant.hide - 2012-04-25 17:06

      Will - 2012-04-25 17:21

Stupid comment. I have access to porn - and you don't see me walking around poking people's eyes out.

      malcolm.molver - 2012-04-25 17:38

Sorry, but there's no damn excuse for such barbaric behaviour. This f***er needs to be castrated with a blunt knife!

      Bronwyn - 2012-04-25 17:42

I doubt it. Its the result of a badly governed country that allows crime to continously occur without any consequesnces - all they are concerned about is lining their own pockets and living behind their heavily guarded homes and chaperoned by their heavily armed bodyguards! The people need to take a stand and DO SOMETHING! What kind of govenrment puts e-tolls, racial issues, BEE etc ahead of its own people! The very future of our countries leaders is looking good isn't it??

      desertratbkf - 2012-04-25 18:40

      J-Man - 2012-04-26 17:15

@ simakoko - you are on the internet. Thus, you have easy access to porn. So by your own conclusion, it will lead you to rape an 8 year old girl, and gouge her eye out. Think before you type.

      simakoko - 2012-04-26 20:58

@ will, dracolusus, desertrat...and j-man... idiots Porn Lovers I'm sorry but \Easy access to pornography leads to this cruel horny behaviour..\ Not that when you watch porn you will rape..Few thumbs up mean they understood my comment.. @ bronwyn that's the problem we as South African have, We turn a blind eye to material facts of the problem! • Maemarous - 2012-04-25 17:19

That's Satanism. The perpetrator is a real satanist!

      Liz - 2012-04-26 08:29

I don't think it has anything to do with Satanism. This "boy" probably thought that by removing her eyes she wouldn't be able to identify him (speculation, of course)which would prove that he knows what he did was wrong. He made the choice to do this, and went through with it. It is his fault and he must pay. Let's not take the blame off him by trying to blame "Satan" or "demons" or claim he was possessed.

  • Andrea - 2012-04-25 17:21

Doesn't matter if he's 15, he know exactly what he was doing! Kill the son-of-a-bitch!

  • marais.adriaan - 2012-04-25 17:23

I know my comment may not be judged favourably, but maybe 10 years from now, when the entire SA population is held ransom by violent crime, people might remember what I said: ALL THIS IS THE RESULT OF ABOLISHING CORPORAL PUNISHMENT. PEOPLE DON'T LEARN ANYMORE THAT THERE ARE CONSEQUENCES TO ACTIONS!!!

      Arthur - 2012-04-25 18:13

That and a corrupt government that doesn't put money into education. Also parents under economic strain working late spending less time with their kids etc etc. I don't disagree - but there are other factors as well. Thankfully I've dodged the marriage and kids bullet, I'd be gray with stress by now if I did.

  • Will - 2012-04-25 17:23

If only there was a way to remove all these vile , uneducated bastards from our country!

HEY! Don't tarnish all men with the same brush! I've helped many kids homes including homes for abused girls, currently looking at ways to help out Boys Town - I can't control what other sick & twisted men do (unless I caught them in the act, but then I'd be in jail for killing them myself).

My deepest sympathies to this poor child, may she have a speedy recovery. May the community get their hands on this rapist first and have a Kangaroo Court, as the justice system in South Africa will just protect this animal and give him free board and lodging, whilst the tax-payers are paying the bill.

What does education have to do with rape? Same with the poverty excuse. Why does poverty lead someone to rape, murder and gouge their victims eyes out?!
