Pretoria - The North Gauteng High Court upheld the life sentence given to a man who raped his stepdaughter six times because he believed her mother was being unfaithful to him.

The man petitioned the six life terms he received from a lower court for the crime but three judges sitting the High Court upheld the sentence, the Pretoria News reported on Wednesday.

The HIV-positive man was convicted of raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter for six nights in a row as punishment for what he believed was his wife’s infidelity. The man apparently phoned his wife when she was away at a funeral and heard laughter in the background. He assumed that she was being unfaithful to him.

On one of the nights in question, the man went into the room where the girl and her siblings were sleeping and raped her. The girl desperately clung to her brother as she was being attacked.

When the mother returned from the funeral, she saw that her daughter could not walk properly and had stomach pains. The man denied raping the child but a doctor confirmed that she had vaginal injuries.

The judge found that the man showed no remorse and felt that the wife deserved it because she “two-timed” him.
