Johannesburg - Reduced train services would continue in southern Gauteng up to Friday, January 6 due to drainage construction on the Soweto line, Metrorail said on Friday.

The train operator said commuters travelling from Vereeniging, Tembisa, Midway, Daveyton, Springs and Soweto to Johannesburg would be affected.

Normal services were scheduled to resume on Monday, January 9.

Metrorail, you are one happy useless public transport, I wish the whole management can be fired. Cant you even provide options for people who are using your service with buses.

I wonder if we are going to see a few burnt ones this week.

Backwards in the beginning of rail services....they actually worked better....and SERVED the most people do not look upon the rails "service" in SA as their first option! Ironically, if people could be persuaded to use an efficient rail service at this time of the year, the ROAD ACCIDENT death toll would drop dramatically.....but no, they will bimble on - fixing drains, the concrete kind and the financial kind....and the trains will stand in the stations as sad monuments to poor management, and grossly poor planning and foresight....SIES!

oh yes, and the Chinese are already planning to go into space, whilst we wilt and shrivel up.

BTW - my Grandfather built the FIRST Electrified Rail Line in AFRICA, as far back as the early 1900's between Colenso and Estcourt, which was a particularly difficult line, with a gradient of 1 in 80 - my point is, where has all that PIONEERING, ENTREPRENEURIAL spirit gone?
