Reeva wasn't pregnant - family

2013-02-27 16:46

Cape Town - The family of Reeva Steenkamp has rejected speculation that the model was pregnant when Oscar Pistorius shot and killed her, a report said on Wednesday.

International websites latched on to a story run by tabloid the National Enquirer claiming that Reeva was pregnant at the time of her death.

But, a spokesperson for her family, Mike Steenkamp, told Times LIVE that the speculation was completely unfounded.

"The post mortem would have revealed if Reeva was pregnant and it did not reveal anything like this.

"Maybe it comes from the other side, to garner and build up some sort of support for Oscar," he told the website.

According to Times LIVE, the National Enquirer story claimed that Pistorius was concerned that Reeva was cheating on him with one of her close friends and this is what supposedly sparked the argument between the couple.

According to the report, Steenkamp used the opportunity to inform Pistorius that she was pregnant with his child to placate him, and the Enquirer alleged that the pregnancy news sent him over the edge.

On Tuesday night, Pistorius held a private memorial service for Reeva in Pretoria.

He is currently out on R1m bail.

"Maybe it comes from the other side, to garner and build up some sort of support for Oscar," he told the website. (These are the words of Mike Steenkamp)... What I would like to know, IF it was the case, in what way will this news build up support for Oscar ? I honestly think, that IF she as pregnant, and Oscar found out, and then killed her because of that, that he will actually lose a lot of support ?? Just my opinion....

      MJ - 2013-02-27 17:14

Am so tired of all the tabloid trash. Most of the version of events in the 1st few days before the bail hearing, was tabloid fodder. They should ask themseleves why so much of that version was not presented by the procecution or defence? Yes, forensics are pending, but let's leave it alone until the trial when ACTUAL facts are presented, tested, and substabtiated. For now, back off vultures, you've done enough damage to both familes; leave them alone to deal with their grief.

F'n Hell! Stop gossiping and speculating! It's because of all you CSI "experts" that the media makes up stories like this to sell their drivel.

I have to be careful what I say here. I found that News24 removed my comments; sommer net so. What happened to freedom of speech eh?

      Poloyatonki - 2013-02-27 17:30

Can you people mind your businesses, this Oscar thing has nothing to do with anyone of you and your opinions.

      wilsong1973 - 2013-02-27 18:51

The way it help Oscar is that it get ridiculed in the press and the press become the bad one in the situation it a very old trick done many time (e.g. princess Diana ) So Mike Steenkamp is not wrong the spin doctor at work again......

      briantebogo - 2013-02-28 10:59

I really can't see how making us believe OP murdered a pregnant woman will make us support him more.

  • JanGrimbeek - 2013-02-27 16:58

If that was the case, then he will do double time, killing a mother and her (maybe his own) unborn baby !! This is some BS story again !

      Heather Campbell Matthewson - 2013-02-27 18:44

@ jan - seriously!! YOU can't be that gullible? can you? oh dear - don't answer that!! Your comment speaks for itself!

  • Abdul Cassiem - 2013-02-27 17:01

This "article" should have ended at "The post mortem would have revealed if Reeva was pregnant and it did not reveal anything like this. "Maybe it comes from the other side, to garner and build up some sort of support for Oscar," he told the website." Why report the lies below the facts?

  • rianasemail - 2013-02-27 17:33

wHaT tHe F. . . this is getting seriously ridiculous wHaT tHe F. . .

  • Malose Mokgohloa - 2013-02-27 17:34

He bathong- why can't people leave her soul rest in peace? She can't speak for herself, sickening obsession!

  • debinikita - 2013-02-27 17:38

What a lot of bloody rubbish... Jaysus people are such gossip mongers and always stirring up the pot.. Adding fuel to the fire.. Unbloodybelievable !!!

  • Nikki Peeriyalal - 2013-02-27 17:38

The National Enquirer is infamous for its garbage. So let it be just that - garbage that's spewing worlwide...only an idiot would be dumb enough to believe ANYTHING the National Enquirer or The Daily Sun acting all innocent up in here pretending to give us up to date news! Man my neighbours and Madea have more facts than these tabloids!!

      Nurse Helenk - 2013-02-27 17:57

The National Enquirer is REAL TRASH. They make things up out of nowhere. I've seen a few copies overseas, it's pure speculation. Nothing more.

  • Karen Gildenhuys - 2013-02-27 17:58

Oh for crying out loud, what next??!! This whole thing has been completely blown out of proportion! I have never seen people going as bonkers as they have with this Oscar Pistorius sage. It's like they want to make a huge example out of this guy. None of us were there, but hell knows we all know what happened. We play God and judge instead of waiting for the law to take it's course. Both these families are suffering so much and still have to deal with hurtful comments and articles full of speculation. Give this people a break please!!

  • Lynn Hattingh - 2013-02-27 18:07

This is so reminiscent of princess Diana's death. There was also speculation of her being pregnant. It seems to me that the tabloids etc have a penchant for stories about people who cannot defend themselves! It is part of our sick society! Genoeg om jou op jou springbok trui te laat kots!

      Nurse Helenk - 2013-02-27 18:22

Yes this particular piece of speculation was sickening. And imagine the family having to hear this nonsense and then having to deny it? Disgusting and vulgar.

  • Sibusiso Ngam - 2013-02-27 18:07

well, well this is RSA where everything comes in diffrent colours, guess u hev 2 read everthing with a pinch of coloured salt.

  • rob.martin.94402343 - 2013-02-27 18:33

    Media crap.

  • erich.goosen - 2013-02-27 18:43

Speaking of pregnancy. Afrikaans radio nuus (RSG) contained an item that Caster Semenya is not pregnant. If the contrary is true, Jimmy Abbott and myself is not anorexic.

  • Lindsay Kingston - 2013-02-27 18:52

What's next? The tabloids make me sick. This is turning into a soap opera. Fact is a beautiful girl has been killed, and a brilliant athletes future is in tatters. Two families are heartbroken and grief stricken! But the hyenas just can't leave it alone. Accident or not, we don't know, because we weren't there. Justice will be done and the truth will come out. All in good time.

  • Helen Harley - 2013-02-27 19:08

seriously this is my first comment - the MEDIA will do ANYTHING to sell a story - get over yourselves and allow this man his day in court and stop writing such utter tripe - how the hell do you sleep at night - you are clutching at straws you DISGUSTING bunch

      Jill.Robinson10 - 2013-02-27 19:18

Oh - I SO agree with you Helen

  • Lynn Hattingh - 2013-02-27 19:10

Abdul Cassiem, you make my day with your colourful expressions and honesty. Keep it up, its nice to have someone who is not as biased as me commenting on news24.

  • Jill.Robinson10 - 2013-02-27 19:16

This info comes from the National Enquirer !!! Hello - this rag mag just prints anything for sales. Come to think of it - so does News24.

      Nurse Helenk - 2013-02-27 19:27

Jill the National Enquirer makes News24 look like the New Yorker.

  • Raven Jimmy - 2013-02-27 19:37

Wtf is wrong with the media. This girl was also a breadwinner in her makes it even more words, just too heartbreaking and sorrowful.

  • stuart.lennox.14 - 2013-02-27 19:40

    the plot thickens

  • patrick.mahungela - 2013-02-27 19:42

Every paper is reeva oh shem let her soul rest

  • Sipho Mnguni - 2013-02-27 19:46

Just when you think you have heard enough rubbish desecrating the memory of such a gorgeous and intelligent young lady whose life was snuffed in the most cruel and tragic way another nonsense is written on and on ad inifinitum. But when is this going to end? Heaven only knows! I wish I was living in a decent world where people both dead and alive are treated with respect. Oh, by the way I am living in the evil world. Therefore, go on and sully her memory you vermin who feed on crap that sells your papers.

  • anele.mveku - 2013-02-27 20:32

Can the speculation, the lies stop already and let her family grieve for their love one in peace and let her soul rest in piece.

  • Xoli Mbambo - 2013-02-27 21:51

How? He is not Mr Action in bed only in guns.Da!

  • Salomé Van Rensburg Bezuidenhout - 2013-02-27 22:50

This is exactly why Reeva said she did not want to talk to the media, she stated "You know what they will do - they always make things up: Reeva cheats on Oscar' and rubbish like that. I dont want anything coming in the way of his career. He's such an amazing athlete and I don't want lies." My heart goes out to both of them. Her biggest fear became the truth, and in the most unlikely turn of events, her fears became true because of her own death. Ironic that her wish was I don't want lies and so many of the people in support of her, believe most of the lies being fed to them so far. So so sad.

  • Matjaka - 2013-02-27 23:03

news 24 is not ashemed of publishing news that not have salt and water.

  • Carmen Joubert - 2013-02-28 12:33

Just let her rest in peace. And in any case, if she had been pregnant, he's then guilty of two murders! #JusticeForReeva #RIPReeva

  • ANASKA - 2013-02-28 13:20

Oh for heavens sake - this trash has gone to far!! -UTTER NONSENCE and irresponsable!! Reeva would certainly not think of becoming pregnant - THEY ONLY KNEW EACH OTHER "LESS" THAN TWO MONTHS!!

  • ANASKA - 2013-02-28 13:37

If she was pregnant this would have become public knowledge after her autopsy - ANTHER DAY IN THE SORDID OSCAR PISTORIUS CASE!!

  • markus.hagedorn1 - 2013-03-01 13:56

So tired of people just making up stories. Wait for the evidence!

  • Hemlock - 2013-03-01 15:45

For goodness sake give the poor Steenkamp family a break and let them grieve in peace and privacy.
