2013-02-13 16:44

Cape Town - A blaze at a an aerosol factory near OR Tambo International Airport has been brought under control, Ekurhuleni disaster and emergency management said on Wednesday.

The building in the industrial area Spartan, owned by Carbotec Laboratories, had caught fire after some cylinders had exploded, sending a plume of black smoke billowing into the air.

Jacaranda FM News had reported earlier that there were serious concerns about 20 000 litres of propane gas as well as 20 000 litres of butane gas that were still in the building.

Disaster and emergency management spokesperson William Ntladi said the building had been evacuated, and the blaze was now under control, and the cloud of smoke had largely dissipated.

Ntladi said had the cloud of smoke grown any bigger it may have posed a threat to air traffic at the airport.

Desiree, you do know all news stories start with the city where the report was filed. Not the name of the city where it happened.

Oh please, it takes a lot more than some smoke to affect ops @ Tambo - it's a government agency that still has the best equipment and ATC that they ever had.

Indeed a government run agency, you can see just how bad its operated!
