Johannesburg - Reeva Steenkamp's parents will spend Wednesday morning paying tribute to their daughter at the beach where her ashes were scattered.

Reeva was shot dead by her boyfriend, Paralympian Oscar Pistorius, at his Pretoria home on Valentine's Day in 2013. The track star claimed to have mistaken her for an intruder.

Reeva would have celebrated her 32nd birthday on Wednesday.

Her parents, Barry and June Steenkamp, recently told You Magazine they will go to Summerstrand in Port Elizabeth in the morning to pay tribute to their law graduate daughter.

Barry and June said they were going to put red roses into the ocean; and hoped for a glimpse of the dolphins their daughter loved so much.

"We will rather spend our time thinking about her than Oscar," June, who declined any other media interviews, told You Magazine.

A bright future

Born on August 19, 1983, Steenkamp appeared to have a bright future ahead of her before her death. A glimpse at her social network profiles sketch a picture of a happy, ambitious woman.

On both her Instagram and Twitter profiles, Steenkamp described herself as an 'SA Model, Cover Girl, Tropika Island of Treasure Celeb Contestant, Law Graduate, Child of God.'

On December 15, 2012, exactly two months and a day before her death, Steenkamp took to Twitter to express her wish to walk down the aisle.

She tweeted: "Being around this bridal party makes me appreciate my friends & look forward to the day I get married to the man of my dreams. #weddings".

On Instagram, she posted pictures of a wedding gown, reception dress and another garment she desired to wear as she headed on her honeymoon.

On December 29, 2012, the freckle-faced model tweeted: "@Leo_Rising: Bathroom: A talented secret place where #Leo can sing, dance, act and even take most important life decisions. Hahaha"

Maternal desires

Ironically, she was shot and killed behind a locked bathroom door at Pistorius's home. During his trial, Pistorius revealed that Steenkamp must have gone to the bathroom without him realising she had got out of bed.

Several months before her killing, Steenkamp had posted a picture of a little boy and girl clad in stylish attire.

"Hello my future kids!!!! #style #swag #justlikemommy," she captioned the picture on Twitter.

This was a dream that she was never able to fulfil.

Day after day, Steenkamp's social media messages were filled with optimism and encouragement for her followers.

On December 27, 2012, just days before the new year, she appeared upbeat about the year ahead.

"In 2013, I will speak my mind. Walk where my feet dream to tread. Share company with those who make my heart smile. Make my dreams a reality," she wrote.

On one occasion, she also shared a tweet from her boyfriend, Pistorius, who had written that: "Everything happens for a reason. Practise some faith in yourself and others. Pray and trust that His will shall prevail."

Last Instagram post

Tweets posted by Reeva ahead of the last birthday she lived to celebrate in 2012, showed that she was excited about her 29th birthday.

She had a High Tea celebration a week before her birthday at the Da Vinci Hotel in Sandton.

Steenkamp's portrayal on social media of a beautiful, happy life came to an abrupt end early on that February 2013 morning, when four gunshots were fired through the toilet door.

Her last Instagram post was that of a woman screaming out while a man's hand is seen trying to cover her mouth.

"I woke up in a happy safe home this morning. Not everyone did. Speak out against the rape of individuals in SA. RIP Anene Booysen.#rape #crime #sayNO," she wrote, referring to the 17-year-old girl who was found raped and disembowelled in the Western Cape earlier that month.

On Friday, however, all focus will be on the gates of the Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria when Pistorius is due to be released on correctional supervision after serving 10 months of his five-year sentence for culpable homicide.
