Report corrupt officials: Modise

2012-12-08 14:57

Johannesburg - Communities must report corrupt officials, North West Premier Thandi Modise said. "It is because of corruption that ordinary people are unable to get services that are due to them," Modise said.

"Communities are not able to get proper roads, water, electricity, houses and sanitation because of people who are corrupt."

Modise made this call at an event to commemorate international anti-corruption day at Kanana Township near Orkney on Friday.

She urged communities to report corruption, as rooting out corruption was a joint effort with government.

"We will really appreciate it if all of us can join hand in the fight against this enemy that robs our beautiful province."

'We are not playing'

Modise said that corrupt senior managers had already been fired and the North West government was taking action against other officials suspected of misappropriating funds.

"I want to warn those who think we are playing that there are senior managers in government who have being fired due to corruption and others are being suspended as we speak."

Gosiame Seatlholo of the North West house of traditional leaders said that it was time to deal strictly with corrupt officials.

"Our communities will be very happy to see people being punished because of their corrupt tendencies."

Good for her! That's the way, Modise. That's the kind of leadership we want. And deserve.

      werner.nel.984786 - 2012-12-08 16:07

Ok then. Zuma is corrupt. Now, please lets see you do something about it. waiting... waiting... waiting... and nothing Proof is in the pudding dear.

      kortbroek.duplessis - 2012-12-08 17:07

Where must I go to report a corrupt government official? There's no telephone number in the article either. His name is Jacob and he has a house in Nkandla built with stolen money.

      kortbroek.duplessis - 2012-12-08 17:08

Oh and he abused his position and accepted bribes as well

      Tuyez - 2012-12-08 17:28

Firstly, put the info bill aside and discuss about puting corrupt people away for life if they cannot be hanged. Plus they must have their possesions repossesed by the state and auctioned to pay back the money they have stolen from the state.

      BulletProof. - 2012-12-08 21:39

This is Zoooma trying to save is skin again, start with him, it should be a good example to start cleaning the house.

      JohnB - 2012-12-09 05:28

BrainCandy, she might as well start with herself, remember the Weapons Scandal? So her kind of leadership? No thanks. Modise, get YOUR own house in order, better still why don't you just shut up, you're embarrassing yourself.

      marilyn.docherty.9 - 2012-12-09 07:08

The problem is the corrupt officials get SUSPENDED ON FULL PAY or get 'shifted' to another Dept. They never seem to suffer the consequences of being CORRUPT!!!

      bullet.proof.9400 - 2012-12-09 09:27

Just for you to ensure you are not missing out your share Modise.

      cyril.mpanza.1 - 2012-12-09 11:25

But when the other parties do these reports then the ANC party calls it cheap poltics and says bad things - so what do these ANCs want. Must we report then get the law that stops the information.. These ANCs are confused. All they want is power.

      PrettyUsefulArt - 2012-12-09 15:46

@ JohnB - aah, so that's why her name seemed so familiar. Oh well, back to reality for me. *sighs deeply*

  • joe.smit.549 - 2012-12-08 15:11

Define corruption, Modise! Those corrupt councillors think, what they do, is normal.

  • WilsoWill - 2012-12-08 15:12

    Ok... i report jacob zuma.

  • msizi.luthuli.14 - 2012-12-08 15:14

who ever say President Jaco Gedlyihlekisa Zuma is corrupt and steals our taxpayers money, that person must go to the nearest police station and open a case of fraud against Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma. Mourning does not help

      Erna - 2012-12-08 15:43

If I remember correctly that was done but somebody thought it necessary to drop the charges to protect zuma. And now they are fighting tooth and nail to stop the DA and the public from seeing the evidence - wonder why? If the president is innocent why not prove it?

      robes.spear - 2012-12-08 15:53

There are 783 charges of fraud and corruption waiting to be heard. Jacob corrupted the NPA by his appointment of Menzi Simelane. Dont worry - we will see he gets his day in court!

      cyril.mpanza.1 - 2012-12-08 16:05

We all know the risk with reporting Cde Zuma. The police will take us before they arrest their leader Cde Zuma. We know thats why Cde Mthethwa is there. To report these corrupt ministers is not say that they will face the full might of the law. The ANC has made provisions for its corrupt ministers.

      msizi.luthuli.14 - 2012-12-08 16:10

Erna, open your case, you will get a case number and produce evidence in the court of law. that will serve good for South Africans.

  • lazarus.masilela - 2012-12-08 15:19

Only Mbeki can fire corrupt people. You protect them.Fire Zuma, and I will believe u. Empty talk,Sis!

      msizi.luthuli.14 - 2012-12-08 16:13

Mbeki did not fire Jackie Selebi, Manto Shabala Msimango

  • obadia.segwape - 2012-12-08 15:27

and then after reporting them what happens premier?

      timothy.mbele.3 - 2012-12-10 00:03

They become presidents I guess. These people are just playing with us. Zuma is corrupt and they want to vote him back.

  • John - 2012-12-08 15:45

WHAT? Do the upper levels of government dislike the competition because there is less for them to steal??

  • John - 2012-12-08 15:51

Who are WE to report to? His superior who is more corrupt than he is!! How is the superior UNAWARE of the corruption if he is not party to the CORRUPTION?????

  • gerda.vanrensburg - 2012-12-08 16:10

That's a joke really! To whom do we report corruption seeing that one doesn't get anywhere when doing so. They cover one another's backsides.Best way is when News 24 dedicates space where anyone can report incidents anonimously and the government acts on it.

  • kagisho.p.boihang - 2012-12-08 16:14

Give the details where we can report them

  • john.thelps - 2012-12-08 16:18

And what happens?....they get transferred to another department and carry on as if nothing happened!! Do not waste our time. Maybe the slogan should be...the community must kill corrupt officials!!!!

  • jannie.kotze.7 - 2012-12-08 16:26

Thanks for the invite. Let us start at the top:- J. Zoompie, Khulubuse Zuma, Vivian Reddy, Mac Mahara, ... et all! This should keep you quite bussy. Thanks for following this up!

      JohnB - 2012-12-09 05:13

Jannie, why not start at the VERY top, Mandela, he bank rolled Zuma. If all of you have not read the KPMG report on Zipper and his buddies yet please do: http://cdn.mg.co.za/content/documents/2012/12/06/KPMG_report.pdf (450 pages of shenanigans)Then watch the M&G video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=skLDsilJwBk&feature=youtube_gdata Crap it's scary. So Ms Modise your smoke and mirrors is a big yawn.

  • archie.mooki - 2012-12-08 17:03

start with officials who bankrupt MadIbeng Municipality and I'll see that you are not playing games, then more list of corrupt officials will follow

  • Mbuso Siera - 2012-12-08 17:03

    lets start 4rm FW Botha...

      kortbroek.duplessis - 2012-12-08 17:14

Who is FW Botha? Don't you mean PW Botha, well he is dead. But as you work your way down don't forget to go pick up Mandela, just as corrupt as the rest of them

      ray.molekoa.5 - 2012-12-08 18:01

Boss , haaibo ! You sound like eugene terblanche 's spirit is possessing you . Take a breath man !!!

  • Dennis - 2012-12-08 17:11

I would like to report Jacob Zuma please. To many cases to write about here.

  • Tuyez - 2012-12-08 17:19

Is she the first one to say this ? This sound like a popular statement and easy to say infront of people. We only hear about suspensions and cases with no convictions.

  • ray.molekoa.5 - 2012-12-08 17:56

Please Modise , just be serious when addressing us . Aren't you one of those corrupt officials in government to start off with ? Just shut up if you have nothing better to say , we have had enough of your circus show in government . Corrupt officials , who are you talking about ?

  • allan.clean - 2012-12-08 18:19

I report Zuma. I saw him steal 250mil after many corrupt deals that included the Arms deal that his "buddy" Shabir was chief operator. I even have a KPMG audit report to prove it. Does that help? Can the NPA prosecute?? Ohh noo they cant, He owns them, and you. Are you drunk minister?

  • charmaine.mcdonald2 - 2012-12-08 18:25

Well said, but when we report corrupt officials we get branded and targeted.

  • piero.mendace.5 - 2012-12-08 19:08

    Then fire Zuma big mouth!

  • piero.mendace.5 - 2012-12-08 19:10

Mbuzo, stop whining, the ANC has lead this country for years. Wise up and stop looking for crutches to explain your poor choice in Government..

  • douglas.reid.921 - 2012-12-08 19:14

    ANC

  • paul.g.hughes.52 - 2012-12-08 19:15

Based on ANC track record, any reports will be quickly followed by a drawn out investigation, after which many months will be for the analysis, and by then the problem has moved on. It is like an illusion, draw your attention away so you can do nothing about it anyway.

  • jerry.phillips.393 - 2012-12-08 19:21

Firing them is not enough. They must be arrested and pay back what was stolen from the masses.

      Tuyez - 2012-12-08 19:31

I will happy if they can toughen the laws on that.

  • Desi Moodley - 2012-12-08 19:57

dearest thandi thats exactly what i did. unfortunately the comrades rallied around the corrupt officials i reported and fired me! No No No whistleblowers are not protected by this government! now i am unemployed for doing the right thing!

      Bra Tebzaah Sibilanga - 2012-12-08 23:03

I also got fired for exposing and acting against corruption by the NW prov gov.I dont regret what I did, thats how I am and will do it again if it happens again elsewhere.

      archie.mooki - 2012-12-08 23:18

I was fired for reporting corrupt MEC in North West Province anyway I'm glad, that I am now working in US where my skills are appreciated and honoured

      Desi Moodley - 2012-12-08 23:55

so you see aunty Thandi. its rotten to the core

      Tuyez - 2012-12-09 08:37

Very few are honest people in government if there are any. People now join ANC for pure greedy reasons. While fooling people on the ground about struggle and corruption. I think its time we suspend the part at least for one term so that they can go and get their acts together. That will be a warning to

      jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-09 11:01

Desi Moodley, don't expect sympathy from the ANC, they are all the same and protect each other. Be glad you no longer work in that atmosphere and I hope a decent job comes your way soon.

  • mmoledis - 2012-12-08 20:00

That will be good for the province and for it to be in good leadership, premier should within his office have a corruption mornitoring and investigation team which will report to her each and every corruption activities they found in North West government so that she can take harsh steps against those who are found to be engaged in corrupt and fraudulent activities. Like in Madidi village where there was a 30 million given out by government for roads but still today there is nothing happening there and the money is gone, such thing are things that made residents and citizens of North West to be angry as corruption within the province and its municipalities is too much.

  • ian.robertreid - 2012-12-08 21:10

This business of corrupt officials getting only sacked is bullsh~t! they must pay all back then jailed?

  • sefako.mokgalaka - 2012-12-08 22:45

I have heard that so many times. Tried calling the Zuma crime line and this is what the recorded voice said: We are experiencing a high call volume please try again later. What is the point? As for me it is anything but ANC in 2014.

  • thozi - 2012-12-08 23:03

    You're just kidding, right?

  • thabo.shaku - 2012-12-09 01:27

    Action speaks louder than words!!!

  • arie.vdplaats.3 - 2012-12-09 06:00

If you are not playing, then tell me why so little is accomplished. If you are not playing as you claim, then a much more intensive effort is required !!

  • Stefan Erasmus - 2012-12-09 07:52

I do feel sorry for you. One day God will reward you for your good act. Stay strong.

  • Lionel Simmers - 2012-12-09 08:17

How's about the Elephant in the room minister. Unfortunately the head is rotten, gun for the big feeesh!

  • jacqui.daanevanrensburg - 2012-12-09 10:55

Thandi Modise, it is your job to do something about corruption, don't delegate your duties to the citizens. You sack those that steal in stead of sending them home on paid leave. It is nice to see something is being done, may that be because Mangaung is in the air?.

      Donkervlie - 2012-12-09 12:34

I agree I am sick and tired of these politicians knowing who is doing the stealing but keeping quite about it incase they loose their popularity. How is it possible for someone who moves in the township and has contact with these local politicians all the time not to know about the corruption. Then to blame us for not reporting.

  • rory.n.price - 2012-12-09 11:28

Thandi would like to make a report, and hope to hold you to your word , Zooma is very corrupt,

  • annie.israel.50 - 2012-12-09 12:01

I have a lot of respect for her - WELL DONE at last an article that is making sense - ALL CORRUPT POLITICIANS SHOULD BE PROSECUTED AND SEND TO JAIL IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT DELAY!! A bill should be passed asap for ALL CORRUPT POLITICIANS - ZUMA UR DAYS ARE NUMBERED

  • maureen.walton1 - 2012-12-10 12:39

Please start with Zuma. Why doesn't Modise put her money where her mouth is and prosecute him? Modise also needs to put that Information Bill aside because it just plays into all these corrupt officials hands. I do wonder why articles which report Zuma issues have their comments closed after a limited number of comments have been posted. Nkandla 'born in arms deal sin' and ANC says Zuma's finances 'private' both have their comments closed. Why do articles that pre-date these articles on Zuma not have their comments closed?

  • Karen Amanda van Loggerenberg - 2013-03-10 17:21

Yes go for it report corrupt officials. Just ashame the innocent on the end must take the rap......ask me I know! Start by top management and move down the ranks.....you will be suprise where the corruption starts especially human resource ....employment of incompetent people with false eduation, favoutism ect.
