Robber shoots 2 nurses at Limpopo clinic

2013-02-08 20:03

Johannesburg - Two nurses were wounded when an armed man opened fire inside the Vyeboom Clinic in Makhado municipality on Friday, Limpopo police said.

Warrant Officer Elijah Malatjie said a man arrived at the clinic at 11:30 wearing a balaclava.

"He immediately took out a firearm and shot twice on the floor, forcing the two security guards at the entrance to flee."

After the security guards ran away, the man took off his balaclava and went inside the clinic.

He went into one of the consultation rooms and shot one of the nurses twice in the stomach.

The man then went to another consultation room and shot a nurse in the arm, Malatjie said.

He then helped himself to a set of car-keys and four cellphones and fled in a nurse's VW Polo.

"This is very strange. We suspect that the man's intention was to rob the clinic," said Malatjie.

"We are on a manhunt to find this suspect, so that he may face the full might of the law for what he did."

A case of armed robbery and attempted murder had been opened.

Both nurses were in stable condition in hospital.

      calvin.mbhele - 2013-02-08 21:00

The security guards I see all carry donkey piri or what ever that stick is called, can you stand against a gun with a stick? Life is not a movie, had those guys reacted otherwise we were gonna be talking funeral tomorrow another family(2) starve

      rodney.bevan.58 - 2013-02-08 21:09

Did the guards have guns? If not, what did you expect them to do? No one in their right mind tackles a person with a gun if all they have is a night stick.

  • maluta.hector - 2013-02-08 21:13

I wonder who's next. Nurses are doing great jobs of saving people's lives. Security at clonics and schools is compromised. Guards guarding without guns, only carrying knokerries. Beef up the security, please. Make it tight like the ones guarding Zuma.

It is very important to understand such cases. It usual that such man, would have psychological problems, in this case the psychopath has built him self a monster in his mind out of frustration, it may be that he wanted to prove a point. May we say also that there may be a third person involved or a criminal motive, but cases like this are deeper than they seem. The police must investigate further within the clinic if the person is not usually frequenting to premaditate his plans, secondly when caught must be interogated and psychologically examaned, for incase the man may have a psychopath case or criminal offenses. we may be able to curb several similar cases that may have been or can occur.

Please tell me this Manhunt how you planing on hunting because there's not even description of the man not even of the vehicle he fled on, colour, registration! So one man did this all by himself, he got the Security away unharmed but they did nothing to catch this man such as calling for back up, he then went inside shot someone he got out went to another room shot another person yet non of all the people in Hospital is thinking of doing nothing, he then helped himself with Cellphones and Car keys he walks out freely walking to the supposedly packed Car park and Identified his get away Polo and drove off!!! eish talk about Super man amongst bunch of Idiots, as for Security Company should be removed, this Hospital has no panic buttons in 2013!!! pathetic

  • WILDSBOK - 2013-02-09 06:44

I think the people in the hospital will work harder now. Kfc. Starts at 10 and not at 9 in the morning.

  • maylani.bezuidenhout - 2013-02-09 10:08

Clinics, schools, churches... no where is safe from this scourge. Why did he have to shoot them if it was a robbery? If we had a death penalty he would have thought twice about his actions.

This country is slipping into a quagmire of violence, rape and murder and those responsible for our safety do nothing. It may be time for us to stand up together and reclaim our country before it is too late.

  • Pfunzo Ddt Michael - 2013-02-09 15:35

at least both nurses still in a stable condition

      Sulette Behnke - 2013-02-10 23:06

It's good news but why should they have been hurt in the first place? Who shoots women who care for the ill? What is this country coming too ?
