Johannesburg - A husband and wife, both police officers, shot a suspected robber and helped to arrest his alleged accomplices when they broke into their Kibler Park home on Wednesday, Gauteng police said.

“They forced open the gate, kicked open the door and threatened the people inside with firearms,” Major Mack Mngomezulu said.

The couple, both police detectives, started shooting at the two during the break-in at their house in Hulda Road on Wednesday around 14:30. One of the men was wounded. A third man fled in the green VW City Golf the robbers had arrived in.

According to the Glenvista Community Policing Forum’s (CPF) post on Facebook, shots were fired at the getaway car. The driver stopped and was caught while trying to run away.

A total of four robbers were arrested, three of them on the couple's property, the CPF said.

The couple’s children were not yet home from school.
