Johannesburg – Robbers have escaped with an undisclosed amount of money after disarming a cash-in-transit security officer on Saturday in Kempton Park.

Speaking to News24, police provincial spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said a G4S security guard was approached by three armed men.

“The guard was removing money from Shoprite on Voortrekker Street when the three men allegedly took the cash box and the officer’s firearm.”

Dlamini added that the assailants poured petrol on the G4S vehicle, but did not set it alight.

Police are investigating.
