Robbers jailed for a total of 125 years

Johannesburg - Five men were sentenced to a total of 125 years in jail by the Wesselsbron Regional Court on Tuesday, Welkom police said.

Makhaola Mpelo, 31, Ntlantla Maseko, 32, Thulani Mkhize, 32, Julie Malambe, 40, and Colen Mahlangu, 36, were found guilty of armed robbery and sentenced to 25 years in jail each, spokesperson Stephen Thakeng said.

In September 2010 the five robbed a supermarket in Wesselsbron.

They robbed customers of their jewellery and hijacked a car outside the shop.

Five of the men were arrested a month later.

A sixth man was still at large.
