Robbers kill Cape Town vintage car fan

2012-11-06 08:00

Cape Town - Robbers have shot dead a well-known vintage car enthusiast on his smallholding near Atlantis in the Western Cape.

It was reported that Ron Peffers, 74, was shot in the shoulder in the early hours of Friday morning after intruders broke in through a window, stated the Weekend Argus.

Peffers belonged to the Crankhandle Club, South Africa’s largest and oldest car club.

He often wrote for the Crankhandle Club’s newsletter.

Peffers’s wife, Amanda, was away visiting their daughter at the time. She spoke to her husband in hospital before he died.

A police spokesperson said one person was being questioned about the shooting.

Peffers is also survived by another daughter.

Another senseless killing. Jail for life a minimum, any assets the killer owns taken away or death

      morneoosthuizen - 2012-11-06 08:46

Jail? Death would be more suited

      kala.bafazi - 2012-11-06 10:49

Why does the headline read robbers. Surely it should be murderers.

  • Andrea - 2012-11-06 08:22

And so the farm murders continue.

News 24: Repeat after me: Robbers ROB, Killers KILL. Now repeat that 30000X to get it through your thick skulls. There is no such thing as a "Botched robbery". These guys are killers - and there seems to be millions of them

      amelia.basson - 2012-11-06 09:06

Uncouth murdering savages! Sick & tired of news24 calling these cruel killer psychopaths euphemisms like robbers, attackers or thieves.

      alfred.neumann.142 - 2012-11-06 09:54

You're dead right. A "botched robbery" would be a robbery that resulted in the robbers being caught or robbers accidentally stealing 1000 used Huggies or maybe even a robber who accidentally knocked a loaded firearm out of a safe they were breaking into and shot himself in the face. Armed men breaking into a home in the middle of the night and shooting someone is murder. These guys are murderers, not robbers.

Good Lord. What a world we live in these days. People of the South, when are we going to take a stand and say "enough is enough".. We can't continue living in a society with such senseless crimes. What do we do about this level of crime? How do we do it? When? Come, let's put our differences a side and take a stand.

      heinrich.spreeth - 2012-11-06 09:20

Education education education. More money for job creation , less for president private homes. Education is the only way to bridge the gap!

      Well said buddy :)

      alan.jerrold - 2012-11-06 09:29

I agree, MM. To me the problem does have a lot to do with the ANC. Look at our so-called 'top' policemen - Selebi, Bheki Cele. Look at our Prison Services. Look at our Prez, who was railroaded into power after over 700 charges of fraud and moneylaundering against him were quashed by fancy legal footwork, and never aired in court. A fish rots from the head. We need people of the calibre of Dr Mamphela Ramphele, Reuel Khoza, Moeletsi Mbeki, Helen Zille, Lindiwe Mazibuko, Prof Jansen and others like this in leadership. Not a corrupt gang who set the tone for the rest of the country to follow. Only then will we all be able to make a stand.

and another older person - they are sick cowards, going for older and young children. but i believe the wheel will turn and God's not blind

      jawa.bunter - 2012-11-06 09:42

He was obviously blind when this man was shot

  • BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-11-06 09:42

Condolences. Another senseless killing. At least our President is safe.

  • joe.moer.52 - 2012-11-06 09:49

If you ask me this is blatant racism! And this is not a robbery, thats just used for a cover up. The culprits get caught, slapped with R500 bail, and then carry on with there crimes. The people that perform these types of crime or not humans... Racism is worse than it has ever been in this country. And the white folk are too involved with their good lives to inconvenience themsleves with standing together to change the situation. will only go so farand then.....

      john.baptista.505 - 2012-11-06 12:42

And then what??? Who will you fight against? Pick a target from: 1. All illegal immigrants (Yes, including the "lovely and hard working" malawian next door 2. The AA candidate at work who actually has a 70% efficiency rating 3. All Zulu's cause they have always caused trouble (from Shaka onwards to the current incarnation) 4. All Vendas, cause juju is one 5. All Xhosas cause they are prone to communism I can go on compiling this ridiculous list. It simply cannot work as the traditional lines does not exist anymore

      john.baptista.505 - 2012-11-06 12:44

Cont... However - Honest, hard working, tax paying South Africans (the Minority) will have to do something, and I fear really soon.

  • vusi.mpela - 2012-11-06 10:20

It is time all these robbers are robbed from their own lives. Scum!

  • heikii.kawaguchi - 2012-11-06 15:01

Very sad indeed. Such a great country being led by amateurs and not by pros. This is by far the ANC that I knew. This is by far the South Africa I had imagined. This is definatelly a great victory for the dogs and not a great victory and the spirit of freedom fighters. If they could all be back they would cry in shame.

  • John - 2012-11-06 15:30

And the killers were all white , colored, or Asian I suppose!

  • John - 2012-11-06 15:49

Get an early warning system. Barricade yourself in a room like a safe. Communicate with your neighbors to engage in a MAN RAT HUNT. Out flank the rats. Engage the rats with minimal but vastly superior numbers and force. Overcome the rats resistance to LAWFUL arrest like the cops do. Now call in the useless thug force who will be more concerned that their rats were harmed than the victim's life that was endangered! They are SASS South Afican Sweeping Service and are not too good at that! SAPS my a--e!!
