Robbers stage cash-in-transit heist

2013-09-05 11:20

Cape Town - Police say seven armed robbers executed a cash-in-transit heist while security personnel were loading an ATM with cash at Nyanga Junction on Thursday morning.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash and while running to their get-away vehicle, police responded to an emergency call.

As they were running towards Gugulethu, the robbers spotted the police patrol and opened fire.
One man in his 30s was wounded by the police, while another in his 20s was arrested in NY3 Gugulethu.

Two firearms were recovered.

The remaining five suspects managed to get away with the cash.

The police have launched a manhunt.

Typical life style! The worst still to come with retrenchments looming

I blame apartheid and the DA.

      Gya - 2013-09-05 11:44

Dexter, ur a typical South African. Blaming the Apartheid or a political party.

      Andre - 2013-09-05 12:21

Retrenchments which are directly related to BEE nonsense, dreadful labour laws and politically inspired, selfish labour unions. Full stop.

Ayanda the planning required for theft on this scale is so good that these guys could easily be running very normal businesses. True they would not make as much money, but it would be legal money. I don't understand why they don't turn the corner and start contributing toward the exonomy than take away from it.

      Mbonisi Gushman - 2013-09-05 15:36

3 Weeks ago a colleague of mine who's wife runs a B&B had someone drive a bakkie into the front garden of their guesthouse and proceeded to empty the house of all her belongings. This did not happen in CTN only three years ago, but because of all the desperate people from the Eastern Cape this now happens. Why don't these guys start a removals business instead? They have all the means necessary but they don't do it.

      Mbonisi Gushman - 2013-09-05 15:43

For me as anSMME owner to see a fellow SMME business owner be targeted like this makes me really angrymbecause I know how much stress SMME people are under. These thieves take the wind out of your sails one shot. All the thieves do is go home and blow all their money on fast living drugs and alcohol and then there they are nailing the next SMME hero. Ayanda it is time for you to stop blaming the past for this kind of behaviour and realise that these terrorists have the choice to not engage in these actions.

This is getting out of hand. Same thing happened at Promenade Mall in Mitchell's Plain on Saturday morning where one of the guards were killed by the robbers. Scary thing is that they didn't even care about the innocent people that were walking in the mall, and just started shooting at the guards without warning. And believe it or not one of the robbers made as if he was disabled and was in a wheelchair. He was pushed until they reach the guards, jumped up and they started shooting.
