Johannesburg - Businessman Roux Shabangu allegedly received a R6m helicopter and R4m in cash as kickbacks for fronting for a white-owned company in a lease deal, The Star reported on Wednesday.

The public works department made these allegations in court papers filed in the North Gauteng High Court, in which it is seeking to nullify its lease agreement with the controversial businessman.

The lease of a building in Pretoria was for office and parking space for the human settlements department for nine years and seven months.

In the court papers, the public works department claims Shabangu led it to believe the building belonged to him.

According to the report, a Special Investigating Unit (SIU) report stated that the department made monthly payments of R729 000 to Majestic Silver, Shabangu's company.

The department alleges that Shabangu would then transfer the money to HKML, a 100% white-owned company.

Shabangu told the newspaper that neither the SIU nor the department had contacted him in connection with the allegations and he was not aware of the court action.

"I do not want to comment on what was contained in those court documents... The people who are making those allegations never came to me to verify their facts," Shabangu was quoted as saying.

The department laid criminal charges against Shabangu, The Star reported.
