The shop owners earlier managed to ward off looters, but the crowd of locals soon swelled and they started stoning passing cars and shop fronts.

The crowd then set fire to a parked car.

Shortly afterwards Public Order Policing units arrived to disperse the crowd, and opened fire on them with rubber bullets.

The police's riot squad and a water cannon were also on the scene.

Another mob was also reportedly attacking foreign-owned shops in the Point district.
