Durban - Lawyers of the five men accused of beating a rugby fan to death have agreed to help find 25 lookalikes for an identity parade, the Mercury newspaper reported on Friday.

The lawyers of the five men told the newspaper they had agreed to the unusual request by the State in a bid to speed up the holding of the identity parade and their client's chances of being released.

The five men, who appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday, are accused of beating Brett Williams, aged 29, to death at a Super XV match in Durban last month.

Four of them each face a charge of murder, three counts of assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and one charge of crimen injuria.

They were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Monday afternoon.

The fifth man, who was released on R2 000 bail, faces one charge of assault with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and one charge of crimen injuria.

The four were ordered on Thursday by Magistrate Vanitha Armu to report for an identity parade on Monday morning.
