The SA Weather Service further said that extremely hot conditions are expected in places over the extreme western interior of the Northern Cape as well as the western and central interior of the Western Cape, including places over the Little Karoo.

Meanwhile, Rand Water has warned that persistent high temperatures in Rand Water’s area of supply continue to strain its bulk water supply system.

Company spokesperson Justice Mohale said the lack of rainfall in Gauteng is exacerbating the situation. "The high water demand will cause localised problems in the City of Johannesburg, City of Tshwane and the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

“All consumers must use water responsibly and sparingly."

Mohale said advice on how to save water is available on the Water Wise link on Rand Water’s website.
