SAHRC probes alleged race attack

2013-01-17 19:15

Johannesburg - An alleged racist attack on an employee at the World of Golf in Johannesburg is being investigated, the SA Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) said on Thursday.

"Although [the SAHRC] has not yet received an instruction or complaint from the victim [Nathan Maluleke], it has received a complaint from two members of the public," spokesperson Isaac Mangena said in a statement.

According to theme park owner Darryl Edges, a visitor racially abused Gary Player Golf Experience employee Maluleke on Saturday evening.

A fight ensued and Maluke was assaulted.

Mangena said the SAHRC had asked the World of Golf to share its investigation report, to assist the probe.

It would also speak to Maluleke once he was released from hospital.

"The commission strongly condemns racial intolerance in any form and encourages the public to work [with] greater commitment toward the achievement of a society rooted to respect, tolerance and non-racism."

But its ok for farm murders to continue and no SAHRC to be seen anywhere,,,but apparently the government is in denial about it,,,one of these days there wont be any food left when all the farmers have been murdered.

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-17 20:18

you have the right to register a complaint with SAHRC regarding farm murders which will compell them to investigate it too! But the sh*t starts with a beating and racial insults and gets as bad as murder of harmless people! Its got to stop!

      bmushi - 2013-01-18 09:19

Timothy, if you were watching the news, you would know that officials of the SAHRC visited the area this week and are investigating. i suggest you stop talking things you do not know.

some people still find it difficult to accept changes presented before us by the Goverment .

      henk63 - 2013-01-17 20:23

      Elaborate please.

      jerry.medina.756 - 2013-01-17 20:45

They will never change Difa. Keep checking on the comments on news24. Racism in South Africa is well documented and can never be erased from the heart of every living African. Shame on you black people who vote for Disguised Apartheid

      Killbot79 - 2013-01-18 09:25

Some people like you find it difficult not to move forward

      gauchet1 - 2013-02-06 13:45

Agree Difa, People do find it difficult, we as the rainbow nation need to embrace and support these people or send them to Aus! Racism in any form is a coverup for something badder, deeper. I have been to a far right camp, un-knowingly recently, and I have experience harted against conformity at all costs. I do not agree with Jerry, me thinks he is a illeterate in disguise because I do not thin he has read the DA policy. I did but still voted COPE!

      gauchet1 - 2013-02-06 13:47

Ooops, I meant hatred against non conformitty at all costs...

  • henk63 - 2013-01-17 20:22

This is getting out of hand.

  • Killbot79 - 2013-01-17 20:28

Why dont they probe farm attacks?

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-01-17 20:40

Have you lodged a complaint? If so, ask them why? If not, lodge a complaint

      ditoare.gypsy - 2013-01-17 21:47

Becouse its not about them for now

      themba.thwala.775 - 2013-01-18 05:54

Farm murders in South Africa, December 13, 2012 According to the South African Human Rights Commission, about 2500 farmers have been killed since 1994. The Commission specified that victims were predominantly white and that the danger of farmers being attacked increases when they are white.

  • bob.small.7547 - 2013-01-17 20:32

Farmers are killed all over for years, with horrendous torture dealt out first in most cases and not a peep from Government. One man unfortunately gets assaulted and we have a big issue! Racist Government!

  • Sim.MzantsiAfrika - 2013-01-17 21:00

Judging by the overwhelming number of comment, racial abuse is tolerated as long as the SAHRC has not done enough to investigate farmer's murders. So the morale of the story is as long as we are being murdered we will keep racially abusing. SA seems like a fun country to live in. I thought an eye for an eye makes the world blind (apparently that is not he case in SA).

  • jeanpaul.mouton - 2013-01-17 21:41

Racism should never be allowed but it should count for all...I hope the SAHRC will also probe the incident where a white female garage owner was assaulted by a black man, who is currently walking around a free man....funny how little attention this incident attracted by the media..

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-18 22:31

jeanpaul, i urge to complain to the SAHRC! It is pointless expressing sentiments and opinions here, it not going to go any further than the racially insensitive and racially biased on this forum. A point to note, was it common assualt, GBH, or a racially motivated assault and is the matter still in court?

  • PeterCorneliusSchoeman - 2013-01-18 01:25

Black people aren't the only recipients of racial attacks... If I could only repeat what a vendor called me today prior to vandalizing my car after I politely said that I don't need clothes pegs... It seems to me that racial discrimination only works one way in our country at this current time...

  • williamjoseph.roberts - 2013-01-18 06:11

Are they investiogating all the farm attacks also?

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-18 06:42

william, complain to the SAHRC and they will be compelled to investigate! The more complaints the better!

  • Michael Kleber - 2013-01-18 06:16

i think people are missing the point what constitutes a racist attack , if people go around beating up people purely on the colour of their skin , in this case there was an argument about a colleague which led to the assault , race was not the trigger for the assault

  • rude.awakning - 2013-01-18 06:29

yes! It s tragic that farmers are being targeted and killed! I know first hand of many farmers indian and black in KZN that was killed or repeatedly robbed, hijacked and their families driven off their land by these criminals. A close friends family member was hijacked twice in 3months enroute to his farm on the bank of the Umgeni river. The second time he wasnt so lucky, he got out of hospital a month later, unable to attend to his farm, his second bakkie lost to robbery .......he lost customers which affected his finances then suffered a stroke. Crime is a b*tch which affects all societies, but nothing stops anyone from lodging a complaint with the SAHRC, its your right! Just stop complaining here on News24 its not gonna solve your issues. As for the race issue....its as stale as the apartheid issue!

  • luna.moon.5243817 - 2013-01-18 07:21

    cANCer = racists

      rude.awakning - 2013-01-18 07:36

      very clever!

  • MogosiMagabe - 2013-01-18 07:30

Most comments here, especially from white people, seems to be off the mark and beside the point. Racism is racism no matter what pigmentation the perpetrator. Whites in this country should stop acting like mercenaries...and also stop regarding themselves as a clique of South Africans of European Identity...better Europeans of South African ( allegiance) Identity for the country to prosper an heal its wounds. This is a plea for patriotism: We are stuck in this mess (made by apartheid and supported by whites) together.Farm murders, mostly fueled by deep seated fermented hatred and need for revenge, are a reality and a scourge just as is murder of any citizenry. We must not in the quest to play the blame game, fall in a trap of blaming little Tshidi when the crux of the matter is Jessicca Leandre dos santos.

      nico.dejongh.90 - 2013-01-18 09:10

'Leave us alone' is what apartheid means for you black were at our throats ever since you believe we 'stole' your land. Your forefathers 'stole' this land from the Khoisan. Wake up. "Farm murders, mostly fueled by deep seated fermented hatred and need for revenge" is exactly why blacks are killing the white farmers. Revenge - how right you are. Are the whites killing the black farmers - NO. Shoot the boer - KILL _ is a black ANC thing. Anywhere of similar 'hate' from the whites - NO. Education and hard work made South Africa what it is/was for now everything is getting ruined by... don't blame the blacks are in control - out of control.

  • matshidiso.rantai - 2013-01-18 09:48

I strongly recommend that Afri-Forum represent this guy.

      johan.mostert.967 - 2013-01-18 10:09

Which guy? AFri-Forum is a minority human rights institution, since when is blacks a minority?

  • marius.vanwyk.5621 - 2013-01-18 10:02

For real???????? What about racist farm attacks? And these include murder in most cases.

      matshidiso.rantai - 2013-01-18 10:11

Afri-Forum dedicates its self to representing victimes of prejudice. So ALL South African can be represented by them if they believe they vitims of prejudice/racism.

  • poplap.mozes - 2013-01-18 13:43

I still believe that it's not about race, even if this incident was turn around justice should be justice, it really should not matter what race a person is as we all r human beings, we need to stop bringing the past in the present cause by doing this we will never move forward and create a better and brighter tomorrow for the next generation!
