SPCA woman charged for keeping 125+ cats

2012-04-20 14:23

Durban - An employee of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) faces criminal charges after she kept 125 cats in "putrid conditions" in her home in Underberg in KwaZulu-Natal, the Witness newspaper reported on Friday.

"The cats on her property had been donated (sic) to the local Society for Prevention of Cruelty to animals [SPCA], but had been diverted by the employee to her own property," Inspector Jaco Pieterse was quoted as saying in the newspaper.

The cats had to be euthanised because they had not received any treatment and had all become feral.

The employee would be charged under the Animal Protection Act.

People that do this are known as "hoarders" They are obsessed with accumilating as many as animals as possible and these animals have no life what so ever. They live in filth and disease and it is heartbreaking! The S.P.C.A. who she was working for obviously dont keep streict records of what comes in and what goes out!!! This is very, very sad!

SPCA should come to the University of the Free State, the are many stray feral cats here, they aren't even afraid of humans..

Might she be the cat lady??

  • Ockert - 2012-04-20 14:58

The SPCA in general is useless. They don't even respond to calls or anything.

      E=MC2 - 2012-04-20 15:49

agreed! I’ve had 1st hand experience in trying to report animal abuse only to be sent from one person & organisation to the next!

Shame, she probably couldn't bear the thought of them having to be put down because the SPCA couldn't find homes for them so she took them home and things just got out if hand. I feel sad for her and the cats.

This is true to a degree, however it is a recognised form of OCD.

Meant well I guess, but not the solution on that scale.

  • Cris - 2012-04-20 15:43

We have heard the Cats' condition but how is her mental condition or state?

  • Jackie - 2012-04-20 16:59

Feral cats are not sick!!! They are just wild! They would probably run & hide from strangers. If the cats are fed then leave her alone. How many other people drop cats on the highway or drown them ar do other despicable things to them. At least this lady seems to have been trying to look after them & love them!!

She was hoping to be transfigured into Catwoman, but she forgot that you only get super-powers if you look after the cats. Dumb ass.
