Satanism cases in township schools

2014-03-23 20:54

Sebokeng - At least two percent of Satanism-related cases have been reported in township schools in South Africa, the SA Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) said on Sunday.

"But these are just reported cases. Many cases are not reported," Sadtu's general secretary Mugwena Maluleke said in Sebokeng.

"Gauteng is the worst affected province so far."

This was followed by the Northern Cape and Mpumalanga.

He said the cases were mainly in township schools, but there were signs to look out for.

"Once there's Satanism, there's violence in schools and you will see the level of absenteeism increasing and then there's great social complications," he said.

"You begin to see schools embarking on action against learners who are possessed or displaying characteristics of violence and bullying."

The first action by schools was suspension and then expulsion.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said her department had partnered with Sadtu to raise awareness about religion in schools and government's policy on it.

She said an awareness drive was started in March following the murder of two girls in Dobsonville last month, which was believed to be related to Satanism.

"Since 8 March, every day we are in different communities addressing education, religion and morality," said Motshekga.

The campaign would end on 2 April.

Thandeka Moganetsi, 15, and Chwayita Rathazayo, 16, were found dead in a field, dressed in George Khoza Secondary School uniforms. They had cuts on their hands and necks. Three black candles and two new razor blades were found at the scene.

The police occult unit was part of the investigating team amid reports that the murders could be linked to Satanism.

Motshekga said schools, townships and young people needed to be educated about religion and government policy on it.

Principals, in particular, needed to know about its policies related to religious beliefs, she said.

Since the Dobsonville murders, Motshekga had received numerous complaints.

"Different priests and religious groups have been complaining about problems in schools about religion, and we are here today to educate people... and clarify government's position on religion," she said.

"Priests have been writing to me. They say the problems are because of government policies."

She did not elaborate on the complaints, but said she wanted the community to be educated on government policy.

satanism really? how retarded is this country becoming? seriously ANC is a major fail in terms of serice delivery, education and economic growth. This is all the stupid witch doctor stuff that still goes on and is encouraged by the government as some sort of retarded scheme to get black people to become doctors. Sorry but thats about the truth name one non-black person who becomes a sangoma with retarded ideas on medicine besides Mr Bones

      James Mabote - 2014-03-23 21:20

Satanism: Worship of Satan, especially in the form of a travesty of Christian ritual. Satan a.k.a the Devil : In Judaism and Christianity, the chief adversary of God or mankind. Meritocracy, go and spread that bullsh*t about non-black persons not subscribing to this satanism myth elsewhere.

      Piet Pompies - 2014-03-23 21:48

Mabote, do tell us about witchcraft and related issues. Forget about satan. Play DiabloIII if you want to meet him face to face LOL.

      James Mabote - 2014-03-23 22:04

Piet Pompies, based on what grounds are you demanding this of me? Did I ever imply to be an expert or have any knowledge whatsoever as regards magico-religious conceptions? Merit o crazy here implied that only black people believed in the existence of Satan - which is what this article, by necessary implication is about. Merit o crazy's uninformed, narrow-minded, sweeping remark warranted my response. Why should I entertain your non-sequitur, as it is clear that you want me to "forget about Satan" which is what this article is about?

      Jonathan Woods - 2014-03-23 22:23

And just now they will be burning people as witches. Oh sorry they already do! Oh well back into the dark ages I suppose!

      Meritocracy - 2014-03-23 23:37

@James I am not saying only black people subscribe to satanism any maniac who is upset at the world can be a satanist. What I am saying is that the majority of the black population is still uneducated, and thus the belief in witch doctors still persist. You want to know who was really to blame for Marikana it was that damn sangoma who gave the miners muti which made them "bullet proof". didnt work out so well for the miners did it? and all this religious rubbish can be stopped by simply educating people, rather than keeping them in the dark and keeping them fearful. Sangomas are not real doctors chances are they are more likely to kill you than help you and they often partake in illegal acts. so I am saying we need to cut out the superstitions of this old religious crap which kills people on a daily basis and get the people educated. it doesnt mean you lose your culture you can still pay heritage to your ancestors but recognize that we dont live in the dark ages we live in the modern age

      Nico de Jongh - 2014-03-24 00:18

Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba - "They are not the devil's brothers. They are not the devil's relatives. They are the devils themselves," he told the packed OR Tambo Hall in Khayelitsha. Are 'Ministers' allowed to spread hate in evil ways ..

      Zee Komani - 2014-03-24 05:52

Retarded scheme to get black people to become doctors? Are you f***en kidding me? Is this guy serious?

      James Mabote - 2014-03-24 06:58

Meritocracy, if you wish to treat witchcraft (which you attribute to blacks alone) as a separate issue from satanism, why then did you bring it up in relation to this article, which is clearly about satanism?

      Phillip Hoffman - 2014-03-24 07:42

Atheitis. Your comments regarding Hitler show a totally misguided understanding of what being a Christian entails. Going to a Catholic church does not make you a Christian. Compare Hitler's actions and what he said with the requirements stated in the Bible. You will find them totally different. The commands that Jesus gave to His disciples are nota what Hitler did. Even if Hitler claimed he was "fighting for the work of the Lord". Scripture says that by their fruit you will know Christians. DO NOT twist things to persue your own sad agenda.

      Tee Klemy - 2014-03-24 08:44

thingsYou need to know the truth. This is Africa where tradition was taking place centuries ago. Now, the influence of kids to satanism is all about money and becoming rich (Illuminati) and that is totally out of African Traditional Teachings. African Tradition Morals are taught in many ways e.g some of moral are said it way to scare kids not to do wrong .1." don't sit on the road or path bcaz you will develop a big sow" THATS AN EXAMPLE.

      PhillipHoffman - 2014-03-24 08:57

ATHEITIS. "And who are you to tell the 40000 other brans of Christians they are inadequate Christians and that you are some form of superior Christian. In actual fact you are a a member of a minor fundamentalist crazy new age cult." At NO TIME did I claim to be superior. All I asked was for you to use a Biblical standard when evaluating the claims of those that call themselves Christians. I also stated the Biblical guidelines. You are either totally misguided or deliberately destructive when you use quotes from Hitler as authority for Christian standards. I suspect the latter given your previous diatribes on N24.

      PhillipHoffman - 2014-03-24 09:01

Atheitis "My feeling as a Christian points me to my Lord and Savior as a fighter. It points me to the man who once in loneliness, surrounded only by a few followers, recognized these Jews for what they were and summoned men to fight against them. - Adolf Hitler, speech, April 12 1922, published in My New Order." Did you notice the date of this 1922. many years before his invasion of Poland. People change, and this is blatantly so with Hitler. Many Atheists on this form state that they WERE once involved in church, led praise and worship etc. They now do not believe in what they once did. You are ONCE AGAIN distorting the truth and creating lies. Clearly your conscience has been seared in order to continue sprouting such rubbish.

      PhillipHoffman - 2014-03-24 10:16

Atheitis Ha Ha You are TOTALLY out of your depth. You are mixing facts (40 000) faiths do not have 40 000 Bibles. ALL bible translations will say the same thing. According to your logic about Hitler being a Christian then most atheists on this forum are also Christians. I will say this again YOU ARE TOTALLY OUT OF YOUR DEPTH. Clearly you are trying to regain some credibility after you have been found out. Now I need to get on with something more productive. I love it when you repeat lies so that others may believe them.

      Matthew Jones - 2014-03-24 11:13

Satanism is being thrown around alot lately. Savagery at schools = satanism Zuma being booed at stadiums,or in fact anyone that boo's him apparently, = satanism. and lets not forget that not so long ago, anyone that votes anc will be garenteed into heaven. Keep that in mind.is all i'm saying. Otherwise, this barbaric behavior needs to be dealt with swiftly and harshly!

      Leroy Reynolds - 2014-03-24 13:02

loony toons that have been fed too much rubbish!

      Coert Welman - 2014-03-25 08:45

Atheitis, what do you then make of this: n e w s.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/1753469.stm Also to paraphrase you: Just because you are embarrassed that mass murderer Stalin was an atheist does not mean he was not.

  • Thebe Tau - 2014-03-23 21:01

  • Mapule Ellen Mahlulo - 2014-03-23 21:04

      shilulu - 2014-03-23 21:42

yes at school kids should get informed how dangerous religion really is and stay far away from it.

      Reagan Hendricks - 2014-03-23 21:46

I only used prayer in school to help me pass. it never worked!

      Meritocracy - 2014-03-23 23:39

schools should be secular and teach science, people can pursue which ever religon they want so long as it does not conflict with the laws of the nation or infringe on the rights of other people

  • Ashraf Sampson - 2014-03-23 21:13

And this is such surprising news?! One of the first things the current regime has done was STRIP the youth of a decent education. Despite the fact that I'm not a christian, I truly believe that taking away the morning prayer and biblical classes from school was wrong. Then "practical" classes such as metal work and woodwork were removed along with the HANDICAPPING of educators by taking away corporal punishment. Now, not even a parent is allowed to reprimand a child anymore... Perhaps I'm just "old-school" but I truly believe that children's rights has been taken away with all these new "rights". Our education system is worse off than before and it started when God and religion was removed from the school syllabus.

      Vérité Un - 2014-03-23 21:25

Yes, too much rights can be too much rights, even if you don't believe in God, Mohammed, Budha or any other god I believe religious principles of today provide a sound moral and ethical guide line to live your life...........probably why Jack Black despite being an Atheist decided to send his children to a Jewish school and is raising them Jewish.

      Piet Pompies - 2014-03-23 21:51

WTF is Jack Black? Jack Daniels maybe :-)

      Vérité Un - 2014-03-23 22:23

  • Mike Whyte - 2014-03-23 21:19

If you boo Zuma you are a satanist or something close to it? Tell us a bit more, ANC, and Zuma, and Fikile Mbalula, the latter the minister of sport. Why should we believe you? Are you prepared to take on the role of bible punchers? OK. Do so but repent at least and stand trial for the many nonsense you lot have been guilty of. Empty the gall infested sinful mentalities you carry around. It’s a challenge! Only thereafter you lot come back and face the country with a clear conscience. But first, Zuma, clear those 700 plus criminal charges still hanging over your head. We are not all fools.

Did anyone bother to get Gigaba's or Mbalula's opinion on satanic shenanigans after all they are experts on the subject?

  • Amanda Stone - 2014-03-24 00:06

What is Satanism? Satanism is whatever a bunch of people dream up involving black candles, other paraphernalia and lots of cruelty to their victim. It isn't even a real religion (in my opinion). It's sensationalist clap trap dreamed up by a former ring master called Anton LeVey who shaped the rules and rituals as he went along. It's akin to Hitlers dreamed up madness. The actual truth is closer to this; a bunch of deviant misfits who are angry against society and their peers and in some cases a good dose of psychosis. The way I see it, our kids have too much access to too much information via TV and internet, access to drugs and our society is decaying to such an extent that our kids and young adults are simply out of control and think they are above the law. I wonder how many of them actually understand what Satanism is all about? Or are they simply re-enacting nonsense they see in horror movies? I have no doubt that real Satanists exist and practice their religion. But this bs our kids get up to is just an excuse to act out. Please, go ahead and inform yourselves. Actually do some reading of your own. Church of Satan, a valid website. Check it out and see their take on their religion. Then come back to the things our so called Satanists are doing and compare notes. Don't be willing to accept that "Satan made us do it" nonsense so blindly.

      Vérité Un - 2014-03-24 00:15

Amanda, what is a "real religion"?

      Bonnie Scott - 2014-03-24 16:28

  • Daniel Mavhungu - 2014-03-24 01:17

Bring back the bible in schools. It will teach our children morals. Dont be shy cos thats the only solution. Simple.

      Pieter Bruwer - 2014-03-24 07:11

So Atheitis, according to you, only YOU have the final say over a matter? Only YOU decide what's right or wrong? Perhaps all atheists will accept that rape is ok in a few hundred years from now since there are no absolute standards to live by. Well if that's the case then I can come and torture you and murder you since 'I define my own purposes' ? Of course I won't do that, but that's why Communism, Nazisim, Racism any more '-isms' exist. Since I am god, I decide what's right and wrong. Since there is no god (to Whom I'll have to give account to one day) , I define my own purposes. Hitler was happy to murder millions of people since HE felt ok about it. Same with Stalin, Lenin, Mao Tse Tung, Paul Pot..... And down another lane... It seems you have a personal rivalry with this God of the Bible. Be sure you can't stand up to Him and KEEP standing. He's God. He doesn't think or work inside the box like us humans do.

      Hugo Pelzer - 2014-03-24 09:23

@ Pieter To be fair, you should probably add the pope to your list. You know, the one who had all the access to wrong and right, and still sent men and children to their death to reclaim the holy land, amongst endorsing numerous other attrocities.

      Pieter Bruwer - 2014-03-24 10:24

Well, Atheitis, humanly speaking raping and murdering are some of the worst things one human can do to another. But according to God's standard just having hate in my heart against anyone causes me to be murderer. Or telling just one lie makes me a......liar. Looking at a woman who is not your wife and desiring her is, according to God's standards, committing adultery. Atheitis, I guess you also lie and cheat all you want, heh? Perhaps not zero as in murdering or raping? According to God's standards you're a liar and in trouble with God. And that's just ONE of His commandments. I guess you've heard tjis a milion times from Christian 'freaks' , but make your life right with God! Eternity is coming for us all.

      Pieter Bruwer - 2014-03-24 10:41

Hugo, sorry, I should have added him, because according to God's Word the Pope is NOT a true follower of Christ. He is an idolator. He worships an image that's part of an age-old pagan religion. Roman Catholicism does not serve the God of the Bible. It's a fake, counterfeit Christianity designed to make God look stupid. Catholicism makes it own rules and decisions, perhaps some based on the Bible just to give it a Christian shine, but in reality it's still the age old religion of Baal worship. No, God is righteous and holy.

  • Anthony Hawke - 2014-03-24 01:22

    Satanism = ANC

  • Dagga Movement - 2014-03-24 02:02

What's satanism? Pokemon? Devil's lettuce? The violence is caused by lack of parenting, lack of morals and a lack of discipline.

  • Erna Westdyk - 2014-03-24 05:51

Keeps on talking about "government's policy on religion" but what is that? Public schools are supposed to be secular schools with not one religion favoured over another. In any case, a culture that believes in the tokoloshe and sangomas and whatnot cannot be religious at the same time. Children need to be taught morals and values from home at an early age - by the time they get to school it is often too late.

      Erna Westdyk - 2014-03-24 05:58

Maybe, but aren't so-called "muti killings" similar to satanistic killing? Satanism is just another excuse to do wrong - "the devil made me do it".

  • Erna Westdyk - 2014-03-24 06:07

And again I ask "what is the government's policy on satanism"? Government ministers ate quick to call anyone opposing them "the devil"! Gigaba comes to mind. How can you be serious?

      Lalane Mojela - 2014-03-24 06:23

so! ANC is the reason all that goes wrong neh? kikikiki....moron.

  • Rudzani Mpanamana - 2014-03-24 06:12

If satanism is also a religion, when it was said there should be freedom of religion we allowed it into our schools, the government prohibited prayers in the schools morning assemblies, and this is what happens when we forsake God.

  • Nicole Tucker - 2014-03-24 06:25

Atheitis, that is the old testament. Through the blood of Christ, we have God's grace. The God you speak of, is not the God I worship. The God I worship and love dearly, loves me enough to look past and forgive my sins time after time. I am a Christian, feeble and flawed, but made perfect in His sight. A religion for all intents and purposes, espouses a moral code and principles to follow. Sure there are extremists that taint what it teaches. That is why I believe in a RELATIONSHIP with a LIVING God. Do I belittle you for your choices? Absolutely not! MY God gave you that gift, you know, FREE WILL. To choose your path. No need to criticise others for their choices or because they have a different one to yours . Have a blessed day!

  • Phae Rayden - 2014-03-24 06:33

Oh please, has anyone heard of a satanistic murder by a group of employed adults? Wake up people, the culprits are ALWAYS teenagers, mostly from unstable/poor/neglected home environments. Religion must never again be allowed to contaminate childrens minds in a learning environment. Look what can happen to them, they might grow up to work in the Police Occult Unit, which is pretty much like wasting your life working for the Unicorn Protection Unit. Superstitious bunch of fools.

  • Freddie Mybokkie Swart - 2014-03-24 06:51

In our country we have freedom of religion and have we have respect that. The problem comes however when when some religious practises and philosophies causes anti social behaviour and also the breaking of the law. As somebody who deals with it, not only on spiritually level, but on social level it cannot be taken lightly. Many of us as parents tend to ignore it because of our lack of input with our children. Of cause this is only one of many negative influences that is challenging our youth. If you dont believe my point of view, please contact your local social worker, school phycologist, teacher, etc.

Glen. Atheitis is not pushing any belief down anyone's throat. He is flawlessly putting forward an argument against religion or the belief in gods. He is arguing against untruths.

      Seek Anfind - 2014-03-24 13:12

hi glen.. atheists do try to get their ideas out into the communities too.. and yes some might have a tad too much enthusiasm. but we are only trying to challenge the lies that are sprouted as truth by religions. we have over a thousand years of lies to catch up with so please take it easy on us.. our numbers are growing fast

There is a right hand and a left hand, There is light and darkness, There is good and bad, so there will be God and Satan...

To debate with Atheitis is futile. It is like trying to have an intelligent conversation about a literary classic (although the bible is more than this it is the top selling book of all time in the world) who hasn't even read the book. Such a person would not even be allowed to debate in a rational forum. Atheitis, read the bible from cover to cover and maybe then you might have some insight in to what you clearly know nothing about.

To me,the bible is just a book full of fantastic tales. Some guy named Jesus walking on water, some guy names Moses parting the mighty sea with a stick, you gotta be kidding me!I'll just live my life and die,i can't be bothered with all this religion stuff.

  • Evans Brandon Tshuma - 2014-03-24 15:41

With that being said,to each his own.

In countries like America and the UK, Satanism has a large following but very few crimes are being committed by actual Satanists. The problem in your country isn't Satanism - the problem is that Satanists in your country are interpreting the philosophy of Satanism in a Judeo-Christian context. In Christianity, Satanism is supposed to be about death, murder, and perversion. So it is no surprise that that's exactly what you're getting from so-called Satanists. Satanism is about liberating yourself from the confines of corrupt laws and pointless social expectations. The crime of the "Satanists" in your country (aside from the murder) is that they have failed to educate themselves on what actual Satanism is all about. Don't take me wrong - the serpent must have fangs and the lion must have claws, but the serpent or lion that strikes without good cause is simply sick and confused. Satanists: put away your weapons and pick up books. Educate yourselves in all matters and be full of knowledge. Then should you feel as though violence is required, be swift.

Consider the following: The CHRISTIANS claim that Satanists want to take over Governments and push their own religious agenda. It is the CHRISTIANS who have infiltrated your Government, who use fear and scapegoating in order to maintain control and authority. I should not even call them "Christians" because Christians are meant to remain outside of politics ("Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's but give unto God what is God's" - here Jesus shows there is a distinction because Church/God and Government). These wolves in sheep's clothing, they who masquerade as Christians in order to maintain political power, are the ones with which genuine Christians should be attacking. Whatever you believe about Satanists, and whatever you fear their agenda might be...look at the "Christians" in your country and behold that they do the very same! sinistor666@gmail.com

Spreading rumors is not a good policy for any person, be that a governent official, nor a religious minister, and even worse when done by a teacher. Stirring up up fear can and often does lead to civilian violence. So why are we listening to rumor mongers and scare mongers. These peole are a grave danger to society and only increase their own power through spreading terror an fear. Shame on Mugwena Maluleke of the SA Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) and shame on, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga for their unholy alliance of rumor mongering and inciting fear and terror in uneducated people's minds. They make a mockery of what education is supposed to be about, elevating minds about rank superstition.

You are speaking the TRUTH, Daniel and Pieter. I have been teaching at such a school for almost four years. Obviously Mr Atheitis has no idea of the chaos, violence, darkness and misery which rules where God is not honoured. That might be because he is part of that darkness, misery and foolishness. On the other hand, when the light of God's glory starts to shine into such a school, the indescribable result is order, peace, respect, wisdom, love and much, much more. May God have mercy on you, Atheitis! You accuse the Bible as being a book promoting sin, while you proudly boast of being blameless . . . God says ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God, including you and I. And should we deny that we have sinned, we lie. You are proudly standing up against God with your father the devil. You are a liar, Atheitis, like the devil who is the father of lies. And worse, you keep on lying and leading people astray on internet. You still have time to repent before God and acknowledge on this forum that you had been dishonouring the almighty, living God by your comments - misinterpreting the Bible on purpose! Be a man and ask God to open your spiritually blind eyes. You are walking in pitch darkness and you cannot see where you are going. Insulting true believers is one thing; insulting the Living and Almighty God of heaven and earth is totally another matter. As has been said, you have to do with HIM. Come to your senses and make your life right with God. Stop lying and dishonouring HIM. Soon you will stand in front of HIM, bowing your knees and acknowledging HIM as KING of Kings and LORD of lords, realizing that your words were foolish utterances of a mere blind man towards his ETERNAL CREATOR. May God do what must be done to open your eyes - as He did for Saul, who became Paul.

Isn't it ironic how atheists spend so much effort trying to convert people to NOT believe in something. There is no other group of people in the world who preach a Not belief. This is because they must do this to reassure themselves in their constant state of denial. They seem so desperate to suppress what their souls and the whole of the universe are screaming at them and deep down, as with all humans, they KNOW there is a God. If not, then why expend so much of their lives fighting with Him and trying to prove He doesn't exist, when by these same actions they prove that he does.

      Seek Anfind - 2014-03-25 08:03

you bible bashers live in total denial. your bible is not some divine book.. its just a bunch of rambling lies! and the fact that you fall for it shows how ignorant and deluded you are. as atheists we strive for people to take responsibility for their own actions, we do not claim that the devil made us do something naughty. if our children misbehave then we correct them, they in turn learn from this and adapt their behaviour (classic conditioning with no silly little god involved). the fact that u believe that you can only act in a morally correct way because god is watching you is actually self insulting.. but I guess you're just too blind to see it!
