Security firm owner denies guilt

2013-03-25 19:24

Johannesburg - A man accused of murdering two men on racehorse farms, and of attempted murder pleaded not guilty in the KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg on Monday.

Rudolf Struwig, 49, the owner of Mapogo A Mathamaga security, allegedly provided firearms to security guards Lucky Mlangeni, Edward Masango and Themba Zandamelo.

In June 2004, a trap was set to kill Siphiwe Ndlovu on a Lidgetton farm.

The alleged assassins knew Ndlovu would be in a car and they hid along the road.

They realised that he might have company, but did not desist from the plan to shoot him.

Dennis Ndlovu, Siphiwe's son, was driving and Siphiwe was a passenger. They were shot and wounded. Siphiwe died of his wounds three weeks later in hospital.

Struwig is also accused of arranging the murder of Mandla Msimang on a Nottingham farm.

Philelani Hadebe and Mlangeni drove to the farm and when Msimang drove up Mlangeni instructed Hadebe to stop. Mlangeni shot Msimang dead.

Mlangeni is serving two life sentences, after pleading guilty. He is on the list of State witnesses.

The trial continues this week.
